Publix Super Markets is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team in Lakeland, FL. The role focuses on improving reliability, resiliency, scalability, and performance of critical enterprise platforms and services.
You will automate processes, enhance observability, and collaborate with software engineers and infrastructure teams. The ideal candidate has strong scripting, Linux, CI/CD, and cloud experience, plus a passion for automation and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related analytical discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience in software engineering, systems engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE.
- Experience supporting highly available production systems and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives to improve platform reliability, resiliency, and performance.
- Design and implement automation to reduce manual toil and improve stability.
- Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, and observability solutions.
- Define and measure SLIs/SLOs and operational health metrics.
- Participate in architecture reviews for reliability and security.
- Support platform modernization using IaC, CI/CD, and cloud-native tech.
- Create runbooks and documentation for operational procedures.

We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our Platform Engineering organization. In this role, you will be responsible for improving the reliability, resiliency, scalability, performance, and operational maturity of critical enterprise platforms and services. The ideal candidate is passionate about automation, observability, cloud technologies, platform engineering, and operational excellence. You will work closely with software engineers, architects, infrastructure engineers, and business partners to build and maintain highly available systems while reducing operational toil through automation and proactive engineering practices.

- Design and implement automation solutions that reduce manual operational effort and improve system stability
- Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, and observability solutions
- Define and measure Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and operational health metrics
- Perform proactive analysis of capacity, performance, availability, and reliability trends
- Participate in architecture reviews to ensure alignment with reliability, scalability, security, and supportability requirements
- Partner with application development teams to improve operational readiness and platform resilience
- Lead root cause analysis efforts for complex production incidents and drive corrective actions
- Support platform modernization initiatives using Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native technologies
- Create and maintain technical documentation, engineering standards, runbooks, and operational procedures
- Contribute to disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resiliency planning
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related analytical discipline, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, middleware administration, or related technical disciplines
- Experience supporting highly available production systems
- Experience with Linux and/or UNIX operating systems
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting database environments, including performance monitoring and analysis
- Experience with scripting and automation technologies
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Azure Monitor, or similar tools
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and Infrastructure as Code
- Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and conducting root cause analysis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience with Java development
- Experience with Oracle Databases
- Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or container-based platforms
- Experience with middleware technologies such as Apache, WebLogic, JBoss, or WildFly
- Experience with Kafka and distributed event-driven architectures
- Experience implementing reliability engineering practices including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and operational dashboards
- Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools
- Experience leading modernization, cloud migration, or operational excellence initiatives
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership
- Professional certifications related to cloud, infrastructure, reliability engineering, or security

As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
