Job summary

Peraton is seeking a senior cloud/DevOps professional in Annapolis, MD to migrate on‑premise systems to AWS, design and manage AWS infrastructure, and implement IaC with Terraform and Ansible. The role requires active TS/SCI clearance and cloud certifications, with a focus on reliability, security, and automation in a national security program.

The candidate will drive improvements in cloud architecture, collaborate across engineering, security, and operations, and contribute to SRE practices

Qualifications

• 16+ years of software development/engineering experience including requirements analysis, development, deployment, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field; Master’s degree or equivalent experience is acceptable.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance with current polygraph.
• Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Developer/Architect/Professional, CKAD, Elastic Certified Engineer or similar are required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support migration of on-premise hardware to AWS cloud (WANDS).
• Design, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPCs, networking, IAM).
• Implement IaC using Terraform and Ansible for scalable deployments.
• Apply AWS Well-Architected Framework across all pillars.
• Perform SRE functions including automation, hardening, resilience.
• Design and implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for availability and performance.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations to reduce toil.
• Drive continuous improvements in cloud architecture and operations.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the migration of on-premise corporate hardware systems into the WANDS/AWS cloud environment.
• Design, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure, including EC2, VPCs, networking, security controls, IAM, and related services.
• Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible to ensure scalable, repeatable, and auditable deployments.
• Apply AWS Well-Architected Framework principles across operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization, and sustainability.
• Perform Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) functions, including automation of operational tasks, system hardening, and resilience engineering.
• Design and implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system availability, performance, and rapid incident response.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams to improve system reliability and reduce operational toil.
• Identify and drive continuous improvements in cloud architecture, reliability, and operational processes.

Qualifications

• Sixteen (16) years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in a related technical field is highly desired which will be considered equivalent to two (2) years of experience. A Master's degree in a Technical Field will be considered equivalent to four (4) years of experience. NOTE: A degree in Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, or similar degree will be considered
• Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required

One of the following certifications is required:

• AWS Certified Developer-Associate
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Associate
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Professional
• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator-Associate
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKAD)
• Elastic Certified Engineer
• Elastic Certified Obervability Engineer

*Possession of a Cloud certification is required and will be verified as part of the interview or offer process.

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, DevOps, CI/CD, and automation.

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
