Leidos’ Defense Systems Sector Mission Assurance is seeking a Site Quality Manager to join our team to be responsible for implementing a Quality Control system and team that promotes customer satisfaction. The position will champion quality actives for all Manufacturing operations, product approvals (FAI), supplier part approvals, continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives to develop an effective Quality Control system for integration of electromechanical products such as machined parts, mechanical assemblies, composite assemblies, welded assemblies, painted or coated assemblies, flight hardware fabrication and assemblies, etc. Occasional travel will be required for in-person engagements with internal customers and suppliers across multiple Leidos sites. This role will report directly to the Sr Quality Manager of Defense Sector Mission assurance. This role will manage and lead a diverse team of quality Engineers and Inspectors and requires deep management and leadership knowledge cross multiple business areas.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Serves as the primary quality control authority for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Previous experience managing Quality Engineers
  • Manages quality control personnel on a day-to-day basis.
  • Plan quality control staffing needs based on product manufacturing requirements, and delegate activities to Quality Engineer, Technician, and Inspector staff.
  • Establishes and implements metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring Quality Control system effectiveness.
  • Leads root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Establishes collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality.
  • Develop quality planning methods for all product lines within the plant.
  • Interacts with customers to identify opportunities to improve quality and establish feedback with manufacturing and development personnel.
  • Initiate and implement quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the plant’s product lines.
  • Reports to Quality Management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
  • Participates in internal and external quality audits.
  • Collaborate with DCMA and other government and/or customer quality assurance organizations
  • Interfaces with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.
  • All other reasonable duties, as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years prior relevant experience; or master’s degree with three (3) year of prior relevant experience. Additional years of direct experience working in aviation programs in support of defense contracts may be substituted for degree.
  • Must have eight (8) years of experience in QA/QC systems implementation and/or management in a manufacturing and/or product-based environment. Fifteen (15+) years of experience acceptable in lieu of degree
  • In depth knowledge of AS9100/ISO9001 requirements
  • Understand Calibration on control of inspection tools
  • Be able to lead site readiness reviews internally and with our customers
  • Understand and be able to control special processes.
  • Must be able to validate operator disciplines and process execution
  • Must be able to Develop, Mentor the quality staff and operations staff.
  • Must be able to lead and develop quality operations including product inspection, test coordination, execution assurance, and participate on material review boards, risk boards, and change control boards.
  • Must be able to identify gaps in knowledge and facilitate obtaining training for relevant team members. Ensure training requirements are completed on-time and certifications stay current.
  • Must be able to interface with engineering to resolve production issues.

  • Experience reviewing requirements on contracts and resources needed to comply to this contract
  • Ability to review and provide quality control inputs to aviation program manuals, forms, and records.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Must be proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office products.
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience leading large teams of quality professionals.
