Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to join a major industrial construction project in Germany on a long-term contract. You will lead health, safety and environmental activities, ensuring compliance with German regulations and industry best practices.

You will act as SiGeKo, provide guidance across the project, conduct audits, training and reporting, and drive the Zero Harm safety program while coordinating with stakeholders and contractors.

Qualifications

  • German Occupational Health and Safety qualification required.
  • Proven HSE experience in petrochemical/oil and gas or heavy industrial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and standards.
  • Audit training and experience with safety management systems.
  • Leadership and ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken.
  • Proficient in MS Office and safety documentation.
  • Academic qualifications preferred; equivalent industry training considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure HSE controls across the project are implemented by all personnel.
  • Support delivery of HSE targets and performance standards.
  • Provide surveillance, monitoring and professional safety advice.
  • Lead and promote Zero Harm safety program on site.
  • Review contractor HSE performance and identify deficiencies.
  • Prepare and review safety docs such as JSA/STA/TSTI.
  • Deliver site safety coaching and training to personnel.
  • Coordinate HSE reporting and maintain management systems.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, investigations and reviews.
  • Assist emergency response and participate in safety meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs and daily activity reports.

Drive Safety Excellence on a Major Industrial Construction Project in Germany!

Our Client has a requirement for a HSE Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Germany.

Role Purpose:

  • Support the safe execution of all project activities in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, codes and industry best practice.
  • Ensure the project is delivered safely while achieving all HSE targets and performance standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on all Health, Safety and Environmental matters throughout the construction phase.
  • Act as the appointed SiGeKo (Safety and Health Coordinator) for the project.

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Ensure HSE controls across the project are consistently implemented and adhered to by all personnel, contractors and vendors.
  • Support the delivery and continual improvement of project HSE targets and performance standards.
  • Provide surveillance, monitoring and professional advice on construction activities and contractor performance.
  • Lead and promote the implementation of the Zero Harm 24/7 safety programme.
  • Review contractor HSE competencies, procedures, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Support the preparation and review of safety documentation including JSA, STA and TSTI documentation.
  • Deliver site safety guidance, coaching and training to project personnel.
  • Coordinate HSE reporting activities and maintain project HSE management systems.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, incident investigations and performance reviews.
  • Support emergency response activities and participate in safety meetings and site walkdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and daily activity logs.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • German Occupational Health and Safety qualification.
  • Proven HSE experience within petrochemical, oil and gas, energy or heavy industrial construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of industry HSE regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Experience reviewing contractor HSE performance and identifying deficiencies.
  • Recognised audit training.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent German and English language skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Relevant academic qualifications preferred; equivalent industry experience and training will also be considered.
