Job summary

Clorox is seeking a Site HSE Specialist to join our Forest Park plant, working with the site HSE Manager and leadership to support Health, Safety and Environmental programs and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.

You will lead HSE initiatives, manage environmental reporting and permits, deliver employee training, and coordinate with regulators. This onsite role requires a proactive, self-directed professional who can juggle multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Job description

Your role at Clorox:

As Site HSE Specialist you will work under the guidance of our Forest Park plant HSE Manager and partner closely with site leadership to support sustainable Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs and to ensure compliance with applicable HSE and Fire Protection requirements.

The role will lead site HSE initiatives, support regulatory compliance, deliver employee training, and manage plant permits and environmental reporting at the federal, state, and local levels. Success in this role requires a proactive, self‑directed professional who can effectively manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines independently.

In this role, you will:

Lead HSE Programs & Compliance

• Create and maintain processes that support a safe working environment throughout the plant.
• Develop and execute safety incident investigation processes, including root cause analysis and action planning to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate, implement, and maintain compliance with OSHA and company HSE standards.
• Serve as a point of contact for safety and environmental inspectors and maintain professional relationships with regulatory agencies.
• Complete environmental regulatory reporting accurately and on time.
• Conduct on‑site HSE assessments and observe plant activities to identify and communicate non‑compliant behaviors or conditions, taking timely action to address risks.
• Support the establishment and tracking of metrics to achieve site HSE goals.
• Manage the HSE Management System and troubleshoot site issues.

Environmental & Regulatory Responsibilities

• Lead the environmental compliance program, including management and renewal of wastewater permits, Tier II reporting, SWP3, SPCC, and hazardous waste management.
• Manage and maintain plant permits at the federal, state, and local levels, including permits issued by city, county, and other municipal authorities.
• Lead environmental initiatives that support sustainability goals.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
• Support efforts to reduce injuries, regulatory notices, spills, environmental incidents, and other risks through effective reporting, corrective actions, and follow‑up.

Training & Communication

• Lead HSE education and awareness through training, development, and communication to support compliance with national, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Oversee and sign off on the completion of required plant HSE training.
• Train and develop assigned groups and department leads to provide day‑to‑day HSE support with appropriate regulatory and technical knowledge.
• Communicate effectively with employees, plant leaders, and other stakeholders through written, verbal, and presentation‑based communication.
• Provide recommendations to Operations on safe interaction between employees and machinery when introducing new equipment, improvements, or technologies.

Continuous Improvement & Risk Reduction

• Facilitate and manage safety improvements using structured improvement methodologies.
• Drive HSE process improvement projects and programs focused on reducing at‑risk conditions and behaviors.
• Support initiatives that strengthen hazard awareness and reduce risk across the plant.
• Promote a culture focused on safe behaviors, continuous improvement, and employee well‑being.
• Support Human Resources and other plant functions with workers’ compensation claims management.

What we look for:

• 4+ years of experience supporting HSE initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in HSE or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in Environmental management and applicable regulations.
• CSP or ASP certification is highly preferred.
• In lieu of a formal degree, 3+ years of experience leading HSE programs combined with completion of formal HSE continuing education courses will be considered.
• HSE training or equivalent experience, including areas such as DOT Hazardous Materials and RCRA.
• Successful completion of OSHA Safety Training Courses such as 501 and 511.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Experience with and a strong understanding of environmental standards and requirements, including EPA, RCRA, Tier II, and county permitting.
• Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
• Ability to effectively manage, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks independently.

Your starting pay will depend on job‑related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

–Zone A: $74,200 - $135,800

–Zone B: $68,000 - $124,500

–Zone C: $61,800 - $113,100
