Job summary

NEXPERA operates a site in Ohio seeking a dedicated Environmental, Health & Safety Manager to lead and sustain site-level EHS programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role acts as the primary environmental and safety authority for the site and collaborates with local regulatory agencies.

You will drive continuous improvement, environmental stewardship, and a strong safety culture while supporting operational excellence across the site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, or heavy industrial environments preferred.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience preferred.
  • CHMM, CSP or similar certification preferred; First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve site EHS management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with corporate standards.
  • Conduct environmental, health, and safety audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to identify environmental and safety risks, implement controls, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support management of change (MOC) processes.
  • Ensure accurate EHS recordkeeping and documentation, including OSHA logs, environmental reports, and internal metrics.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action tracking.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and evaluations.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics, including leading indicators.
  • Partner with HR and Operations on workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, and employee health initiatives.
  • Provide Process Safety Management (PSM) support.
  • Stay current on changes to local and federal EHS regulations and proactively implement compliance strategies.
  • Serve as the primary site contact for regulatory agencies, including OSHA, EPA, and local authorities.
  • Manage all environmental permits, renewals, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Plan for and support regulatory inspections, audits, and agency interactions; lead responses to findings and corrective actions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

POSITION PURPOSE

NEXPERA' site Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading, implementing, and sustaining site-level EHS programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role serves as the primary environmental and safety authority for the site, and acts as a liaison with local regulatory agencies. The EHS Manager partners closely with site leadership to drive continuous improvement, environmental stewardship, and a strong safety culture while supporting operational excellence.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

QUALIFICATIONS:

In order to be qualified for this role, the following is required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of EHS experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
  • Experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, or heavy industrial experience preferred.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with state-specific environmental regulations, including permitting and compliance.
  • Strong multi-media environmental experience (air, water, and waste).
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet, email, slides and word processing software required; Google suite of applications preferred.
  • A working knowledge of Safety Management Software (Intelex) applications will be an asset.
  • Certification:
  • CHMM, CSP, or similar certification preferred.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License Required
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to work for prolonged periods in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to work around hazardous materials such as sulfuric acid and molten sulfur.
  • Ability to wear required PPE (including FR clothing, respirators, and fall protection equipment).
  • Frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching and carrying, use of hand tools (shovels, brooms, sledgehammers, picks) and moving heavy objects.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, and high-lifts, and to enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to respond to emergency call-outs as required by site operations.
  • Typical Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel to other locations may be required.
