Job description

Job Overview

Implements EHS policies and programs within a business group at the regional or business line level. Advises the organization on regulatory changes, investigates major incidents, ensures risks are addressed, oversees reporting and documentation, and manages training.

Responsibilities

• Foster a world‑class Health and Safety culture in Johnson Controls’ Data Center Solutions (DCS)/Silent‑Aire business.
• Work with the Director and Regional EHS Managers to establish corporate EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Implement the organization’s Environment, Health and Safety Management System(s).
• Participate in annual document reviews to improve existing corporate EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Track and maintain local EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and publish data for internal stakeholders.
• Act as a positive change agent supporting corporate EHS visions and new initiatives.
• Manage, coach and mentor a team of local EHS Coaches.
• Track and advise local leadership on regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
• Manage Workers Compensation claims and accounts within region of responsibility.
• Manage the EHS tracking system and ensure inputs and outputs meet requirements.
• Provide local leadership with regular updates, reports, and improvement suggestions on operational EHS issues.
• Advise management and supervisors on regulatory requirements for hazard control.
• Support education and training of employees on health, safety, and environment practices.
• Lead near‑miss and incident investigations.
• Review hazard and incident reports to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Perform or assist in completing external or internal EHS audits and develop action plans.
• Other tasks and duties as allocated.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
• University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8 years suggested minimum experience.
• Minimum six (6) years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
• Experience in developing, managing, and auditing EHS management systems, including ISO 45001, 14001, COR Auditor certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Workers Compensation and Return to Work programs.
• Strong leadership skills and abilities.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Strong knowledge of federal, provincial/state, or municipal health, safety, and environment legislation.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Comfortable with periodic travel required in this role.

Preferred

• CSP designation or qualified to obtain.
