Job summary

Gulf Stream Construction invites motivated engineering students to join our summer internship across Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. You will work alongside experienced estimators, project managers, and superintendents on active projects to gain real-world insight into site, civil, and infrastructure construction.

You’ll participate in pre-construction pursuits, review plans, perform takeoffs, and assist with cost estimates and earthwork modeling.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering (preferred) or Construction Science and Management.
• Junior standing or higher
• Available to work full-time, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, for the duration of the internship
• A driven, entrepreneurial mindset with a genuine interest in the construction industry
• Strong attention to detail
• Solid problem-solving and communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Responsibilities

• Support project pursuits through the pre-construction and proposal phases
• Review construction plans, specifications, and shop drawings to determine scope of work and deliverables
• Perform quantity takeoffs using conventional methods and estimating software
• Assist with building cost estimates as assigned
• Help plan and implement earthwork models using 3D modeling software
• Participate in project planning meetings and progress reviews
• Build strong working relationships with project teams and managers
• Provide day-to-day project management support to Superintendents and Project Managers
• Help track and manage project submittals through review and approval
• Assist in preparing monthly payment applications
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, with room to grow
• Follow all safety policies and procedures

This internship offers hands‑on immersion in the estimating and project management side of the construction industry — ideal for engineering students who want real‑world experience before entering the workforce. You'll work directly alongside experienced estimators, project managers, and superintendents on active projects, gaining exposure you won't get in a classroom.

What You’ll Do

• Support project pursuits through the pre-construction and proposal phases
• Review construction plans, specifications, and shop drawings to determine scope of work and deliverables
• Perform quantity takeoffs using both conventional methods (scaling, counting) and estimating software
• Assist with building cost estimates as assigned
• Help plan and implement earthwork models using 3D modeling software
• Participate in project planning meetings and progress reviews
• Build strong working relationships with project teams, Superintendents, and Project Managers
• Provide day‑to‑day project management support to Superintendents and Project Managers
• Help track and manage project submittals through review and approval
• Assist in preparing monthly payment applications
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, with room to grow based on interest and initiative
• Follow all office and jobsite safety policies and procedures
