Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Site/Civil Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in our Raleigh, NC office to assist on commercial and government projects. You will work on site/civil design for residential, commercial, and industrial developments, participating in workshops and a group project with firm leadership.

The program includes hands-on experience, seminars, networking, and professional development, with housing stipend eligibility for select candidates.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering is required.
• Previous internship experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Water CAD, and Storm CAD is a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Office is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with site/civil development including grading, roadway, storm water, and erosion control design.
• Develop detailed design documents for construction plans within design teams.
• Assist with specifications and potential code research.

The work will include site/civil design for residential, commercial and industrial site development and capital improvement projects.

Program Information

Summer Intern Program

During the summer intern program, interns gain hands-on project experience, develop technical skills, and put their classroom knowledge into action. Our interns are assigned meaningful work and are given the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full-time employee.

Our interns get the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and events, including:

• Networking opportunities to meet other interns, staff, and senior leaders across the business.
• Learning about our services, projects, and clients.
• Professional development workshops, including a career planning workshop and a DiSC assessment to learn more about themselves and how to work effectively with others.
• Summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues that will impact our future strategy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with all aspects of site/civil development including grading design, roadway design, storm water management systems design, and erosion and sediment control design.
• Working on design teams in all aspects of a given project to develop detailed design documents for construction plans.
• May also conduct code research, and assist with specifications.

Required Skills & Experience

• Pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering required.
• Previous internship experience preferred.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Water CAD, and Storm CAD is a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft office is required.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
