Job summary

HDR is seeking a Site Civil Engineer to lead multi-project efforts in a collaborative, employee-owned culture. You will design civil site layouts, grading, drainage and utilities while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring quality across deliverables.

The role emphasizes leadership, strong communication, and proficiency with Civil 3D, OpenRoads/OpenFlows, and other design tools. HDR supports professional growth and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • PE license (P.E. or P.Eng) required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong written and verbal communications.
  • Experience with civil design software and project documentation.
  • Active participation in HDR employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

In the role of Site Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, collaborating with teams in different locations.
  • Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Performs quality checks and reviews for project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.
  • Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
  • Perform quantity calculations
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
  • Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of this position
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Proficiency with the following software packages: AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading and profile tools including Storm & Sanitary Analysis), MSTeams and BlueBeam
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in general civil engineering
  • Proficient and demonstrated applied experience with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows) as required

  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
