Qualifications

Simulation Software Engineer, Radiation & Environmental Effects
Hybrid, Huntsville, AL / Fully Remote

Working with customers across commercial, civil and defence sectors, they are at the forefront of enabling high‑performance computing technologies for the future of space exploration.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain high‑fidelity simulation software used to evaluate radiation effects on spacecraft components.
  • Collaborate with hardware, electronics and space radiation engineers to ensure simulation software aligns with system architecture and future development plans.
  • Design and develop both backend systems and user interfaces for entering and managing radiation analysis parameters.
  • Work cross‑functionally to perform radiation risk assessments for spacecraft hardware using internally developed simulation tools.
  • Support Total Ionizing Dose (TID), Single Event Effects (SEE), Single Event Transients (SET) and Displacement Damage Dose (DDD) evaluation campaigns.
  • Develop radiation test plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate radiation testing activities with external laboratories, universities and research partners.
  • Produce technical reports detailing radiation analysis and test results.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in simulation software or scientific software development.
  • Experience using industry‑standard radiation environment models, including:
  • Trapped protons and electrons
  • Solar protons and heavy ions
  • Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR)
Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting radiation testing activities, including TID, SEE or related radiation effects testing.
  • Understanding of radiation effects in semiconductor and electronic devices, including measurement and characterization techniques.
  • Strong understanding of distributed computing systems, networking protocols, memory management, CPU scheduling and parallel computing technologies such as OpenMP and MPI.
  • Experience using radiation modelling and transport tools such as:
    • OLTARIS
    • SPENVIS
    • CREME96
    • FLUKA
    • PHITS
    • GEANT4
    • Or equivalent industry‑standard modelling tools.
  • Experience developing scientific or engineering software for aerospace, defence, physics or related high‑performance computing environments is highly desirable.
