Job summary

Pikes Peak State College in Colorado Springs is seeking a Simulation Operations Assistant to learn day‑to‑day operations of the Simulation Center and labs, including preparation, setup, execution and teardown of all simulation activities.

The role supports students and faculty during training, helps maintain a safe environment through equipment upkeep and inventory management, and reports to the Health Sciences Simulation Operations Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Able to obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Operator Specialist (CHSOS) Certification within 24 months of hire as a condition of promotion and continued employment.

Job Summary:

This is a NON-CLASSIFIED employment opportunity and is exempt from the State Classified Personnel System. Visit the State of Colorado for Classified employment opportunities. The primary role of the Simulation Operations Assistant is an entry level career progression position that will be responsible for training in the day-to-day operations of the Simulation Center and simulation labs. This includes learning preparation, set up, execution and teardown of all simulation activities. The Simulation Operations Assistant will assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment through equipment upkeep, managing supply inventory, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Additionally, this role serves as an assistant resource for students and faculty during simulation training experiences by answering routine questions related to learning resources and equipment use.

Reports to: Health Sciences Simulation Operations Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

Training the following duties:

  • Update and maintain department reports.
  • How to apply moulage to standardized participants and manikins.
  • Executes the disposal of sharps according to OSHA regulations.
  • Work may require hours before 8am, after 5pm and/or weekends based on simulation and student needs.

Competencies/KSAs:

  • Restock shelving supplies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean simulation environment.
  • Ability to navigate differences effectively and respectfully in the workplace.
  • Adhere to college policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Able to obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Operator Specialist (CHSOS) Certification within 24 months of hire as a condition of promotion and continued employment.

Objective Criteria for promotion. After 24 months in the position, the employee will be eligible for promotion upon completion of the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operator Specialist (CHSOS) to the position of Simulation Operations Specialist.

We will post it as career progression and after 24 months experience and completion of the CHSOS certification, the employee will move to Simulation Specialist. If the person does not complete the CHSOS, their appointment will be terminated.

Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

Additional Information/Benefits:

After 24 months in the position, the employee will be eligible for promotion upon completion of the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operator Specialist (CHSOS) to the position of Simulation Operations Specialist. We will post it as career progression and after 24 months experience and completion of the CHSOS certification, the employee will move to Simulation Specialist. If the person does not complete the CHSOS, their appointment will be terminated. Pikes Peak State College will conduct reference checks and a criminal background check on the selected candidate. Employment offers and continued employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Pikes Peak State College offers a generous amount of annual leave and sick leave. Depending on your employment category and full or part-time status, Pikes Peak State College offers 15 hours a month of annual leave and 10 hours a month of sick leave accrual. There are paid holidays and alternate paid holidays which allow the college to be closed Christmas Day through New Year's Day. Eligibility is defined by your employment FTE status.
