Job Summary

Provides leadership and oversight for multiple heavy civil construction projects, ensuring successful execution from project initiation through completion. Responsible for multiple project managers, project planning, resource management, staffing, schedule adherence, financial performance, and client satisfaction while promoting a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and employee development. Responsible for multiple project managers.

Main Responsibilities
  • Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Support, promote, and practice the Company's core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
  • Hire, direct, and lead activities of project management staff; manage employee training, mentoring, and development
  • Responsible for the performance of project managers and the department
  • Coordinate with internal teams, business units, and subcontractors; communicate with engineers, inspectors, suppliers, etc. to ensure effective utilization of all resources in order to maximize profit/margin on construction projects
  • Lead pre-construction and project status/progress meetings
  • Ensure the company complies OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulations and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with project managers and project engineers to ensure targets and deadlines are met
  • Review and approve project work plans and operations
  • Resolve client and vendor complaints in a timely and respectful fashion; ensure that the Company maintains a positive image and provides unrivaled services
  • Identify cost trends and lead efforts in cost reduction and process improvement
  • Responsible for oversight on all individual project financial reporting. Meet with accounting and management team to review financial goals and implement strategies
  • Responsible for all project schedule development and maintenance
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering preferred or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Valid driver's license required to travel to field locations and/or operate a company vehicle. Must meet company motor vehicle eligibility requirements
Skills
  • 7-12+ years of progressive heavy civil construction experience, with:
    • Demonstrated success leading heavy civil construction projects of increasing size, complexity, and responsibility
    • Significant experience managing all phases of construction projects, including planning, scheduling, cost control, contract administration, resource allocation, risk management, and client relations
    • Experience leading highway, bridge, earthwork, utility, municipal, transportation, or other heavy civil infrastructure projects
    • Demonstrated accountability for project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, productivity, and profit and loss management
  • Proven ability to lead project teams, mentor employees, and influence positive project outcomes through effective leadership and decision-making
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, specifications, project controls, and industry best practices
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, subcontractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency with HCSS, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, JDE, and similar construction management software
  • Proficiency using computers and mobile devices (Android/iOS), including Microsoft Office applications
Physical Requirements
  • Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle documents, equipment, and materials needed to support office and fieldrelated operations
  • Regularly uses hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects, write, and operate a keyboard and/or mobile device to complete administrative tasks, documentation, and communication duties
  • Regularly communicates (talks and hears) and uses visual acuity to exchange information, coordinate work, and review documents and plans necessary for project oversight
  • Regularly operates a vehicle to travel to and from work sites to perform inspections, attend meetings, and support project activities
  • Regularly sits for long periods at a desk using a computer to perform administrative, planning, and reporting responsibilities
  • Frequently stands or works on feet for extended periods and walks across uneven terrain to navigate construction sites safely
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete required tasks
  • Frequently works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required
Benefits & Perks

Compensation*: $100,000 - $125,000 DOE

*Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual's qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role. Benefits: All full-time salary employees are eligible to participate in Simon benefits as defined in plan documents. Available benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, term life insurance, supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, 401K with company match, short and long-term disability, flexible spending plan, and education assistance. Other benefits include eight paid holidays, and access to available company discounts.
