Job summary

Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc. is seeking a Signalling Engineer Onboard in Pittsburgh, PA. The role focuses on hardware design for signaling systems, ensuring EMI/EMC compliance, and delivering a complete HW solution from concept through production.

The successful candidate collaborates with electrical, mechanical and systems teams, uses FPGA/FPGA tools, and mentors junior engineers to resolve field issues while advancing hardware lifecycle objectives.

Qualifications

• Experience with hardware design across concept, design, integration, testing and manufacturing support.
• Experience designing products to pass EMI/EMC standards.
• Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams (electrical, mechanical, systems).
• Experience with lab test equipment (Oscilloscope, data acquisition systems, climatic chambers) for test/verification.
• Experience with design/test activities per CENELEC Standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost-effective, interoperable hardware solutions using industry standards.
• Guarantee complete HW solution design and tooling supporting obsolescence and production issues.
• Troubleshoot systems in the field adjusting for EMI/noise using appropriate tools.
• Contribute to common methodologies and best practices with the Development function.
• Troubleshoot PCB product applications through all lifecycle stages.
• Mentor junior hardware engineers and assist with field issue resolution.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Signalling Engineer Onboard who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. This position will be based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Accountabilities

• (1) Develop cost effective and innovative products and platforms with longevity, versatility, and inter-operability through the use of railroad specific industry standards;
• (2) Guarantee the design and the implementation of a complete HW solution (components, documentation and tools), including design against obsolescence, and Product Production Issues;
• (3) Troubleshoot systems in field using tools for issues with noise frequency/EMI;
• (4) Contribute on the definition and ensure the application of common methodologies, technical solutions and best practices in coherence with the Development function;
• (5) Troubleshoot product applications (PCB boards) in all the product life-cycle phases;
• (6)Guide junior hardware engineers with their tasks and design. Help troubleshoot field issues.

Required skills/experience

• experience with hardware design using microprocessors, microcontrollers, Altera and Xilinx FPGAs, and FPGA Design tools;
• experience with all phases of hardware design process from product conceptualization, product design, Integration, Testing, Verification and Validation, and manufacturing support;
• experience with designing products capable of passing EMI/EMC standards;
• experience with product design according to common industry or government standards;
• experience in operating with cross functional engineering teams (including electrical and mechanical, systems);
• experience working with lab test equipment (including Oscilloscope, data acquisition systems, climatic chambers) for test and verification;
• experience with performing and documenting design and test activities in accordance with CENELEC Standards;
• experience with technical troubleshooting and debugging;
• experience with engineering lifecycles, delivery, and HW/SW integration lifecycle;
• experience with designing/simulation using Altium, PCAD, and LTSpice

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
