Job description

Position Description

We are searching for a motivated and talented Signal Processing Research and Development Engineer to join the Acoustic Data Science Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. The primary focuses of this role are acoustics, signal processing, algorithm development, modeling, data analysis, and software engineering with an interest in undersea systems. You will join a team of scientists and engineers working to develop next‑generation sonar systems and sonar signal‑processing algorithms for a range of Navy applications.

Responsibilities
  • Develop modeling and simulation of sonar systems and analyze sonar data collected by fielded sensor systems.
  • Compare measured data with sonar models, implement computer algorithms to extract information from recorded data, and generate reports and presentations to document findings.
  • Work on real‑time/high‑performance implementation of the developed algorithms and/or models.
Additional Responsibilities for Higher‑Level Position
  • May serve as a technical leader on multiple sonar projects.
  • Provide technical leadership within the division for programs.
  • Make substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals/objectives of moderate to large‑size and scope projects.
  • May supervise lower‑level employees and students in the group.

If filled as Research and Development Engineer – Advanced Professional:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Required Certifications: None

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position, depending on grade, is $109,300.00 – $191,000.00.
