Job summary

Amphenol Communications Solutions in Etters, PA seeks a Signal Integrity Lab Technician to perform high-frequency characterization of cables and backplane interconnects using advanced test equipment such as Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs).

The ideal candidate will have hands-on VNA experience, RF calibration knowledge, and a passion for accurate measurements in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with VNAs (Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of RF calibration methods (SOLT, TRL, ECal).
  • Familiar with high-frequency interconnect testing and data handling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform S-parameter characterization of cables and backplanes up to 70 GHz+.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain RF test equipment including VNAs and probes.
  • Execute test procedures for insertion loss, return loss, NEXT/FEXT, impedance, and crosstalk.
  • Provide accurate measurement data to support product development and customer reports.
  • Prepare test logs, reports, and data files for internal and customer use.
  • Troubleshoot test setups and fixtures to ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with engineers on test methodology and correlation with simulations.

Signal Integrity Lab Technician
Location: Etters, PA

This role will focus on the high-frequency characterization of cable and backplane interconnect products using advanced test equipment such as Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs). The ideal candidate will have strong technical aptitude, hands-on test experience, and a passion for working with next-generation high-speed interconnect technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform S-parameter characterization of cable assemblies, backplane connectors, and related high-speed interconnect products using Vector Network Analyzers (up to 70 GHz+).
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain precision RF test equipment including VNAs, probes, fixtures, and time-domain accessories.
  • Execute standard and custom test procedures to validate insertion loss, return loss, NEXT/FEXT, impedance, and crosstalk performance.
  • Assist engineering teams by providing accurate and repeatable measurement data for new product development, validation, and customer reports.
  • Prepare technical documentation including test logs, summary reports, and data files for internal teams and customer delivery.
  • Troubleshoot test setups, cables, fixtures, and connections to ensure data integrity.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to streamline measurement workflows, reduce variation, and improve throughput.
  • Collaborate with Signal Integrity Engineers on root-cause investigations, test methodology development, and correlation studies between simulation and measurement.
  • Handle sensitive equipment with precision and consistency.
  • Maintain a safe and organized lab environment, ensuring compliance with company standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Hands-on experience operating VNAs (Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with RF calibration methods (SOLT, TRL, ECal, fixture de-embedding).
  • Strong understanding of transmission line theory, impedance control, and high-frequency signal behavior.
  • Proficiency with data handling tools (Excel, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow structured test processes.
  • Prior experience in high-speed interconnect or cable/backplane testing preferred
  • Knowledge of differential signaling, PAM4, and compliance test methodologies preferred
  • Familiarity with TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) and other signal integrity test methods preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and test plans.
  • Technical curiosity and eagerness to learn advanced test methods.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to delivering accurate, repeatable, and timely test results.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to repeatedly connect/disconnect threaded cable connectors using precision torque or static wrenches.
  • Fixturing of test samples requiring use of hand tools and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Primarily sedentary role involving benchtop instruments and computer work.
