Job summary

University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join a growing sickle cell program in Prince George's County. You will work alongside hematologists, APPs, nurses, social workers and pharmacists to deliver patient-centered care across outpatient clinic, inpatient consults, infusion center and telehealth.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Active Maryland RN and APRN license (or eligible).
  • BLS and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • NCCPA Certification.
  • Active Maryland PA license (or eligible).
  • BLS and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care for individuals living with sickle cell disease.
  • Evaluate and manage patients presenting in sickle cell crisis.
  • Perform emergency department and inpatient consultations.
  • Round on hospitalized patients receiving sickle cell care.
  • Manage chronic disease and preventive health maintenance.
  • Coordinate chronic transfusion management.
  • Provide evidence-based chronic pain management and opioid stewardship.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing.
  • Prescribe medications and manage refills.
  • Educate patients and families on disease management and treatment plans.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care and community resources.
  • Collaborate with physicians and specialty teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and quality standards while practicing at the top of your license.

What You'll Do

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioners

  • Graduate of an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
  • Active Maryland RN and APRN license (or eligible)

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of Sickle Cell, Hematology, Hospital Medicine, Oncology, Internal Medicine, or other relevant acute care experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Passion for providing compassionate, equitable patient care

Credentialing through the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff Office is required.

Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.
