This role requires a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and excellent communication skills. The Shuttle Driver plays a crucial role in maintaining a positive and secure student transportation environment.Duties and Responsibilities Safe Transportation:* Safely operate the school shuttle following established routes and schedules.* Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians.* Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the shuttle works properly.* Maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere on the shuttle.* Ensure that students board and disembark the shuttle in an orderly manner.* Report any behavioral issues or concerns to school authorities.Communication:* Maintain open and clear communication with school staff, parents, and students.* Provide updates on any delays or changes to the transportation schedule.Emergency Response:* Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including evacuations and first aid situations.* Follow established emergency procedures and protocols.Customer Service:* Provide excellent customer service to students, parents, and school staff.* Address any concerns or inquiries related to transportation.* Handle parent questions and contacts regarding schedulingVehicle Maintenance:* Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the shuttle.* Report any mechanical issues promptly and follow through with necessary maintenance procedures.* Stay up to date on refuel and service of the vehicle to ensure functional operation.Record Keeping:* Maintain accurate records of daily routes, mileage, and any incidents that occur during transportation.* Complete required documentation for fueling, maintenance, and other relevant activities.* Record names of students attending the shuttle dailyCompliance:* Stay informed about and comply with state and local regulations governing school transportation.* Complete all necessary driver training and courses required by the organization.* Performs other duties as assigned that support the objectives of the position* Stay up to date on driver education and trainingAdditional Essential Functions* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks promptly* Ability to accept direction and constructive feedback* Ability to maintain consistent attendance and punctuality* Ability to foster and maintain a positive work environmentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities* Online timecard/HR system (Paycom)* Understanding of the basic tenants of the Roman Catholic faith* Telephony and operation of a computer and other business-related technologies.Physical DemandsShuttle drivers spend a significant amount of time sitting while operating the vehicle. This requires good posture and the ability to remain seated for extended periods. Operating a shuttle involves various physical movements, including steering, braking, accelerating, and maneuvering the vehicle. Shuttle drivers need to have good coordination and the ability to react quickly to traffic situations. Shuttle drivers must frequently enter and exit the vehicle to assist passengers, conduct inspections, or handle other tasks. This requires flexibility and the ability to climb in and out of the driver's seat. Depending on the nature of the shuttle service, drivers may need to assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, which could involve helping with luggage, backpacks, or other items. This requires the ability to lift and handle moderate loads.Reasonable Accommodations. The school will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with a disability to enable them to perform the essential functions of this job.QualificationsThe successful candidate should have the following skills, experiences and qualities: * Required to be physically fit and being able to lift and carry weight of up to 30lbs.* A high school diploma with proven ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.* Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.* Clean driving record.* Previous experience in passenger transportation preferred.* Familiarity with safety protocols and emergency procedures.* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.* Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.* Physical ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.* Knowledge of safe driving practices as defined by the California DMV* Ability to adhere to safe working practices as defined by industry and regulatory standards.* Ability to read, write and speak English to communicate with all levels of campus community and business contacts.* Ability to work in a team atmosphere.Valid California driver’s license, clear, unrestricted. DMV record; a DMV report will be required prior to and periodically during employment. Alternate/extended shifts are periodically required for event support.This is a Part-time, non-exempt position. Satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprinting is required.
