Job summary

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Shuttle Bus Driver to operate campus routes with a strong emphasis on safety and customer service. The role requires a clean NYS CDL with a P endorsement and the ability to transport students to campus and off-campus events.

You will perform pre-trip inspections, maintain records, fuel vehicles, and communicate clearly with drivers, vendors, and faculty. This is a non-exempt, full-time position with a stable schedule and opportunities to contribute to campus

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid NYS CDL with P endorsement required; airbrake endorsement preferred.
• Knowledge of transportation and motor vehicle law applicable to driver qualifications and bus operations.
• Ability to handle difficult customer interactions while staying calm.

Responsibilities

• Drive campus routes and shuttle students to college-related events as needed.
• Perform daily pre-check inspections and post-trip vehicle maintenance as required.
• Fuel vehicles and record mileage and passenger data accurately.
• Maintain legible vehicle and driver records including pre-trip checklists and logs.
• Cover other areas as needed at the Transportation Manager's discretion.
• Assist with other projects assigned by the Transportation Manager.

Job Title: Shuttle Bus Driver

Reports To: Transportation Manager

Department: Transportation

Classification: Non-exempt

Grade: 12

Supervises: No Supervisory Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Shuttle Bus Driver must have demonstrated experience with passenger transport. This position requires a strong emphasis on safety, while maintaining a high level of customer service.

Essential Functions:

• Follows proper procedures for driving various college required routes. Also, will be required to drive students to College and non-College related functions such as needed
• Follows proper procedures for performing daily preventive maintenance (pre-check) inspection of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and trouble-free operation including the cleaning of any vehicle assigned or as needed
• Follows proper procedures for fueling vehicles and for recording information with regard to mileage and passenger reports
• Maintains legible driver and vehicle records to include: Vehicle Pre-Check List (Gas, Oil, Water, A/F and parts); Pickup and transfer station records and logs
• May be requested to cover any area as needed at the discretion of the Transportation Manager
• Assumes other projects or assignments as determined by the Transportation Manager

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required; must possess a clean, valid NYS CDL with a P endorsement; airbrake endorsement preferred; must have knowledge of Transportation and Motor Vehicle law as it pertains to driver qualifications, bus operations, and traffic safety requirements and precautions; must have the ability to deal with difficult customer concerns while maintaining composure; must meet the medical requirements set forth by NYS DOT/DMV for 19A certified drivers

Physical Conditions and Demands:

Must be able to sit for long periods of time; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (or more but, only with assistance from another employee); available to work various shifts; exposure to outdoor elements. This position is subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
