Fast Pitch Softball Assistant Coach - Sheridan High School

Stipend: $5,670 per season

Reports To: Head Coach

Job Goal: To provide services to assist the head coach for their assigned position(s).

Qualifications

• Obtain current endorsement through the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) prior to the start of coaching responsibilities.
• Maintain all appropriate certifications (CPR, First Aid) and immunizations.

Responsibilities

• The assistant coach helps the head coach in selecting players for the team and assigning them to a position.
• Assist with tryouts and separate players into varsity and junior varsity teams (or A, B, and C teams as applicable) based on skill, teamwork and potential.
• Observe players in practice sessions to help determine starters, monitoring improvement among other players.
• Maintain a good knowledge of the sport being coached; experience playing, coaching, or refereeing is valuable.
• Be knowledgeable about the rules of the sport as well as other relevant regulations.
• Assist with paperwork and be knowledgeable about related regulations.
• Foster a positive relationship with the team while maintaining leadership responsibilities.
• Encourage students dealing with injuries or academic challenges that may threaten their participation.

Equipment Used: Athletic equipment for the assigned sport as well as the weight room and athletic training room as necessary.

Physical Demands

• The employee frequently walks, sits, talks, and listens; uses hands to operate tools or controls; occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
• The employee must be physically able to perform basic first aid skills.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Terms of Employment: Approximate duration of assignment will be determined by position; salary and fringe benefits to be set by the Board of Trustees.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
