Role Description

The Shredder Operations and Maintenance Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Phenix City, AL. This position oversees daily shredder operations, ensuring equipment runs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include planning and performing preventive maintenance, coordinating repairs, monitoring production output, and maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and operational performance. The manager leads and trains shredder operators and maintenance technicians, promotes a strong safety culture, and collaborates with plant leadership to optimize material flow, minimize downtime, and meet production targets. The role also involves troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, working with vendors and contractors, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the facility.

Qualifications
  • Experience in shredder or heavy industrial equipment operations, including monitoring production, optimizing throughput, and ensuring safe material handling.
  • Strong maintenance skills with knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, electrical components, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including supervising teams, scheduling work, training staff, and fostering a safety-focused work environment.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance and production documentation tools, including logs, reports, and basic computer applications for data entry and communication.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards and environmental regulations, with a commitment to compliance and risk reduction.
  • Relevant industrial, manufacturing, or recycling experience; prior work in metal recycling or scrap processing is highly beneficial.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical, vocational, or college education in industrial maintenance, engineering, or related fields is a plus.
  • Ability to work on-site in Phenix City, AL, in a physically active environment, including standing, lifting, and working around heavy machinery.
