Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a Foreman to supervise outdoor recycling operations at our Baltimore facility. You will oversee loading, unloading, storage, and processing of metals and recyclables, directing teams and ensuring accurate inventory and records.

Responsibilities include coordinating material handling equipment, maintaining safety standards, and guiding teams to meet production goals while ensuring quality and efficiency in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• 3–5 years of industry experience or related industry.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
• Strong customer service skills and effective written/verbal communication.
• Excellent problem solving and organizational abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plan and allocate use of material handling equipment (conveyors, cranes, tractors, trucks).
• Direct workers and maintain records of materials received and used.
• Inspect incoming materials and verify invoices.
• Enforce safety regulations and coordinate activities with other supervisors.
• Interpret job orders, assign duties, and motivate workers to meet goals.
• Maintain time and production records and report findings.
• Direct customers to safe unloading areas.

The foreman supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in loading, unloading, storing, transferring and processing of recyclables materials such as scrap metal, plastic, and glass in outdoor recycling facility by performing the following duties.

Major Job Responsibilities

• Confers with plant personnel, plans and allocates use of material handling equipment such as conveyors, cranes, tractors and trucks
• Directs workers engaged in keeping records of materials received and used
• Inspects incoming materials and verifies invoices
• Responsible for enforcement of safety regulations
• Interprets job orders to workers and assigns duties
• Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
• Maintains time and production records
• Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments
• Performs activities of workers
• Responsible for reporting and help correcting all HAZ ID’s and near misses
• Directs customers to safe unloading areas

Job Qualifications

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Must have 3 to 5 years applicable industry experience or related industry
• Willing to work in shop area and outdoor environments in all types of weather
• Must have strong customer service skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Must have excellent problem solving skills
