Responsibilities

• Research timely and evergreen topics in technology, engineering, energy, science, manufacturing, sustainability, and consumer products.
• Develop original concepts for short‑form videos that fit the creator's brand.
• Write concise scripts with strong hooks and clear narrative structure.
• Translate technical subjects into simple, conversational language.
• Edit vertical videos for YouTube Shorts, Reels, TikTok, and similar platforms.
• Select and organize footage, graphics, captions, sound effects, and music.
• Identify opportunities for demonstrations, diagrams, and on‑screen text.
• Collaborate with Zack and the team through research, scripting, filming, editing, and revision.
• Incorporate feedback quickly while maintaining accuracy and clarity.
• Monitor performance and apply audience retention insights to future work.

This person will help turn complex topics in technology, engineering, energy, science, manufacturing, sustainability, and consumer products into concise, engaging stories that are easy for a broad audience to understand. The ideal candidate is both a strong writer and a skilled editor. You understand how to capture attention immediately, communicate technical information clearly, and maintain momentum throughout a short‑form video without relying on unnecessary hype.

What You’ll Do

• Research timely and evergreen topics related to technology, engineering, energy, science, manufacturing, sustainability, and consumer products.
• Develop original concepts for short‑form videos that fit Zack’s voice and the JerryRigEverything brand.
• Write concise, accurate scripts with strong hooks, clear narrative structure, and satisfying conclusions.
• Translate complicated technical subjects into simple, conversational language.
• Edit vertical videos for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and similar platforms.
• Select and organize footage, graphics, archival material, captions, sound effects, and music to support each story.
• Identify opportunities for visual demonstrations, comparisons, diagrams, animations, and on‑screen text.
• Collaborate with Zack and the broader team throughout research, scripting, filming, editing, and revision.
• Incorporate feedback quickly while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
• Monitor short‑form performance and apply audience‑retention insights to future concepts, scripts, and edits.
• Help build a repeatable production process that supports a consistent publishing schedule.

The Ideal Candidate

• Demonstrated experience writing and editing short‑form digital content.
• A strong understanding of hooks, pacing, retention, visual storytelling, and platform‑native editing.
• Excellent writing, research, fact‑checking, and communication skills.
• The ability to explain technical or scientific subjects without making them confusing or misleading.
• Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or a comparable editing platform.
• Strong judgment when selecting footage, graphics, captions, music, and sound design.
• Familiarity with the content styles and audience expectations of YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.
• The ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
• A collaborative attitude and comfort receiving direct creative feedback.
• Genuine curiosity about how things work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with a creator, YouTube channel, production company, media brand, or digital publisher.
