Job summary

Shop Technician – Heavy Construction Equipment

Fabick Cat is a Caterpillar dealer serving Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose repair needs and perform repairs on Caterpillar equipment and other heavy machinery.
• Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs on packaging and production machines.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and general machine upkeep.
• Use diagnostic laptop computers, gauges and instruments to detect faults in electronic, hydraulic, power‑train, engine and overall machine performance.
• Disassemble and reassemble components to manufacturer specifications using hand, pneumatic and specialized tools.
• Occasionally use basic welding equipment and read equipment manuals and work orders.
• Load or unload equipment or components from vehicles.
• Follow OSHA safety and health rules.
• Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical, vocational or trade school education or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment, with preference for Caterpillar.
• Experience using diagnostic equipment, gauges and instruments for all machine systems.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment, mining equipment, systems, engines and components.
• Familiarity with basic tools, including welding skills.
• Ability to work fast‑paced, multitask and stay organized.
• Strong problem‑solving, mechanical aptitude, and communication skills, with proficiency in reading machine schematics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools desired.
• MSHA certified or willing to obtain certification.

Hours

6:00 AM – 2:30 PM with overtime available.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear. Must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Accommodations available for reasonable accommodations. Expect long periods of standing, exposure to heat and cold, working with oils and greases, noise, shift work (1st and 2nd), outdoor work, stooping, bending, squatting or working prone.
