This role involves light maintenance, minor repairs, fabrication support, and assisting with intercompany fleet movements between Service Centers and the Home Office, including snow operations as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assists Mechanics and Lead Mechanics with day-to-day shop duties
  • Performs light PM services, including: Checking fluids, Changing air filters, Basic lubrication, Battery checks, Simple inspections
  • Performs minor mechanical repairs under supervision
  • Supports fabrication work (grinding, cutting, prep tasks)
  • Cleans equipment, attachments, and small machines
  • Prepares units for service deployment or return
  • Keeps the shop floor clean, organized, and free of hazards
  • Organizes tools, hoses, hardware, and supplies
  • Manages storage areas, bins, parts shelves, and supply rooms
  • Empties trash, maintains cleanliness of equipment bays, and improves shop layout
  • Assists with inventory counts, stocking, labeling, and parts organization
  • Helps with receiving parts and checking them against purchase orders
  • Tracks shop supplies and alerts Mechanics or Lead Mechanics when inventory is low
  • Drives company vehicles to support intercompany fleet transfers
  • Transports vehicles between Service Centers and the Home Office
  • Assists with fueling, staging, parking, and vehicle organization
  • Follows all company driving policies and insurance underwriting requirements
  • Operates plow trucks, loaders, and specialized snow-removal equipment
  • Shovels snow and uses walk-behind blowers safely and efficiently
  • Applies salt and de-icing materials accurately and responsibly
  • Supports pre-storm planning and operational staging
  • Assists with post-storm cleanup, equipment servicing, and restocking
  • Follows all safety rules, PPE requirements, and shop protocols
  • Maintains situational awareness in active shop and yard environments
  • Reports equipment issues, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Strives for zero preventable accidents
  • Lears mechanical, diagnostic, and equipment-handling skills from the mechanic staff
  • Follows instructions carefully and demonstrates capacity to develop technical abilities
  • Provides support for field personnel regarding minor equipment handling (as trained)
  • Maintains a clean and professional personal appearance
  • Maintains an organized and professional shop environment and support vehicle

Job description

Major Areas of Focus

The Shop Technician provides essential support within Service Center shop operations, assisting the Mechanic and Lead Mechanic with daily tasks related to equipment maintenance, shop organization, inventory handling, and facility upkeep. This role performs light preventive maintenance, minor repairs, fabrication support, cleaning, and equipment prep, while contributing to an organized and safe working environment. Shop Technicians also support intercompany fleet movements, transporting vehicles between Service Centers and the Home Office as required.

This position is ideal for individuals developing mechanical skills or entering the fleet maintenance field.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Maintenance & Mechanical Support
  • Assists Mechanics and Lead Mechanics with day-to-day shop duties

Winter Season Operations

All field workers and field managers are expected to participate in snow removal operations as needed and at management's direction. This aligns with our "all hands" policy, which boots dedicated snow operations roles with additional bandwidth as needed, especially during severe winter events.

  • Operates plow trucks, loaders, and specialized snow-removal equipment.
  • Shovels snow and uses walk-behind blowers safely and efficiently.

  • Supports pre-storm planning and operational staging.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • May work near mechanical lifts, tools, chemicals, or noisy environments
  • Occasional extended shifts or overtime may be required based on operational needs
