RESA Power in Wixom, MI is seeking a Shop Tech responsible for receiving and executing work assignments to support shop operations and customer orders. The role involves inspecting equipment, painting prep, chemical handling, and electrical maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities include operating painting equipment, transporting gear with forklift, and completing test reports to standards while maintaining safety and efficiency in a team environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and at least 1 year in a related field.
• Knowledge of OSHA and state safety standards.
• Familiar with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and switchgear startup.

Responsibilities

• Complete incoming visual inspection for defects and prepare equipment for painting.
• Read and interpret PDS/SDS for paints, primers, and related products.
• Operate HVLP pressure pot and transport equipment with forklift or pallet jack.
• Apply primers and topcoats, mix paints/solvents/activators, and perform solvent wipe.
• Troubleshoot, test, maintain, and repair electrical equipment as needed.
• Complete test reports to company and customer standards; maintain a clean, safe work area.

Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of Shop Leadership, the Shop Tech receives and carry out work assignments from management and internal customers. These assignments support shop operations and completing customer orders.

Responsibilities

• Complete incoming, visual inspection for electrical and mechanical defects.

Prepare consignment equipment for painting.

Read & interpret PDS/SDS - paints, primers, and associated products industrial/auto painting.

Operate pressure washer – steam clean equipment.

Solvent wipe

Apply body filler,

Mix paints, solvents, and activators.

Operate HVLP pressure pot.

Apply primer and topcoats.

Transport equipment via forklift or pallet jack in and out of paint room.

Palletize and crate.

Off load and load equipment on to trucks.

Troubleshoot, test, maintain, redesign, rebuild, retrofit, and/or repair electrical equipment.

• Equipment will vary by location but may include but not limited to transformers, low or medium voltage circuit switchgear, and breakers. May rewind, paint or weld based on location.
• Complete test reports to Company and Customer standards and timelines.
• Demonstrate a continual effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other departments to provide a quality and seamless operation.
• Communicate PM, Manager or other designee for effective problem resolution and transfer of pertinent information on jobs in process and complete.
• Work with members of a team to effectively complete work assignment. Receive information from team members and/or leadership regarding customer needs and product requirements and utilize this information to effectively complete jobs.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area; Observe all company, local, and federal safety rules, location and company best practices, and company policies and procedures.
• Provide offsite technical support as required or assigned by manager.
• Preferred skills – paint pressure pot operation, orbital sander, forklift, power tools, and air tools.
• Complete other duties assigned.
  
• For positions that utilize a company vehicle, will be required to have a valid driver’s license.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of various safety standards such as OSHA and any state safety standards
• Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, OSHA, IEEE and NFPA
• Prefer experience with most of the following or similar: training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY or another related program).
• Proven mechanical skills and/or experience with different types of low and high voltage equipment (requirement varies on location).
• Able to effectively problem solve.
• Basic computer skills for data entry, looking up information, and/or creating reports.
• Able to communicate oral and written communication skills; follow directions-written direction, oral direction, reading work orders and/or specs as assigned; work in a team environment and communicate with team, various departments, and/or Customers as business needs dictate.
• Customer Focused-able to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and produce a quality work product.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field.
• Knowledge of various safety standards such as OSHA and any state safety standards
• Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, OSHA, IEEE and NFPA
• Prefer experience with most of the following or similar: MCC’s, Breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, performing start-up on switchgear up through 500kV class, etc. ortraining from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY or another related program).

Additional Information:

Job:Full-Time, Union

Location:Wixom, MI

Travel: up to 50 % travel as needed.

Compensation: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience, and eligible for overtime.

Relocation: Not available for this position.

Benefits: Benefits are provided through the union.

Physical Demands:Lifting a minimum of 50lbs on a daily, crawling, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and working in non-ideal conditions.
