The technician will work independently or in a team, follow procedures, and maintain safety and quality standards at this facility located at 2000 E. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX 75061. Hours are Mon-Fri 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Qualifications

  • Experience reading schematics/diagrams is preferred.
  • Diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Shop Service Technician 3 - Component Rebuild

Description

HOLT CAT in Irving, Texas is looking for a heavy construction equipment Shop Servcie Tech 3 for the component rebuild center. This mechanic position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. The mechanic should be able to work independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. We are located at 2000 E. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX 75061. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Essential Functions
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
  • The Technician must be able to plan and controls cost of repair jobs
  • The Technician must be able to document all work performed electronically
  • The Technician must be able to practice all safety protocols and follow company safety guidelines
  • The Technician must be able to order parts online and identifies parts for return
  • Mentors and helps train other technicians
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipent preferred
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems (CAT ET & CAT SIS experience is preferred).
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)

Mid-level position – Generally has more than four years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A Level III Technician has moderate knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Level III Technician performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is indirectly supervised and self-starting; often a team member on a large project.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Four or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

  • None

Travel

  • Some travel is expected for this position

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment

  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Noise level may be loud at times
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
