Job summary

CB&I in Houston is seeking a Material Handling Specialist to move, store, and handle materials for ongoing projects. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Supervisor.

You will receive, store, and issue materials to project sites, operate hand tools and forklift when needed, and maintain a safe, orderly warehouse. Weekend overtime may be required based on production needs.

Qualifications

  • 12-18 months of field experience in chosen craft discipline.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, stores, and issues material and supplies to project sites.
  • Loads and unloads supplies, material and equipment.
  • Keeps warehouse facility in an orderly and safe fashion.
  • Loads materials into vehicles and secures with straps to prevent shifting during transit.
  • Counts, weighs, and records units of materials moved on daily production sheet.

Overview

The Material Handling Specialist is responsible for moving, storing, and handling materials. This position is a Individual Contributor role and reports directly to the Supervisor

Standard work schedule is 4 days a week (Monday- Thursday), 10 hours a day.

Mandatory Overtime on weekends based on production needs

Responsibilities
  • Receives, stores, and issues material and supplies to project sites.
  • Loads and unloads supplies, material and equipment.
  • Places incoming supplies on shelves or in assigned areas.
  • Keep warehouse facility in an orderly and safe fashion.
  • Loads, unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit using hand tools.
  • Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated area using hand truck, electric dolly, wheelbarrow, forklift or other device.
  • Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination using hand-operated crane or hoist, or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
  • Counts, weighs, and records numbers of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales or other containers.
  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together using banding machine and clincher.
  • Clamps sections of portable conveyor together or places conveyor sections on blocks or boxes to facilitate movement of materials or products.
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or using power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment using broom, rags and cleaning compounds.
  • Assembles crates to contain/ship products such as machines or vehicles using hand tools and pre-cut lumber.
  • Shovels loose gravel, metals, plastics, or chemicals into things such as wheelbarrows, scrap trucks or barrels.
  • May occasionally operate forklift, truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 12-18 months of documented field experience in chosen craft discipline.
  • May require a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to perform some support tasks with close supervision/direction and support.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
  • The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience.
