Job summary

SRM Concrete is seeking a Shop Manager / Diesel Mechanic to lead a team of mechanics and shop staff, performing maintenance on diesel trucks, mixers, and heavy equipment. You will drive safety, efficiency, and quality, while mentoring your team and managing shop operations.

The role combines hands-on repair work with leadership duties, requiring strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, plus a commitment to safety and records management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational certification in diesel repair is a plus.
• Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Shop Manager, or Lead Technician, preferably in concrete/heavy equipment.
• Strong leadership, teaching, and safety-focused approach to shop operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanics and shop staff, upholding safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on diesel engines and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across diesel vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify problems and determine best solutions.
• Rebuild, replace, or repair major diesel components (heads, blocks, starters, transmissions).
• Coordinate with operations to schedule maintenance, minimizing downtime and keeping fleet delivery-ready.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
• Stay current on diesel technology and repair techniques.

SRM Concrete is looking for a Shop Manager / Diesel Mechanic who combines strong management and teaching skills with deep mechanical expertise. In this working manager role, you’ll lead by example—overseeing shop operations, mentoring your team, and performing repairs and maintenance on our diesel‑powered trucks, mixers, and heavy equipment. Your Mission & Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanics and shop staff, setting the standard for safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on diesel engines and equipment, including oil changes, lubrications, and filter replacements.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on a variety of diesel vehicles and heavy machinery.
• Use diagnostic equipment and tools to accurately identify problems and determine the best solutions.
• Rebuild, replace, or repair major diesel engine components such as heads, blocks, starters, and transmissions.
• Collaborate with the operations team to schedule maintenance and repairs, minimizing downtime and keeping our fleet delivery‑ready.
• Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures in the shop and on job sites.
• Keep detailed and accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
• Stay current on the latest diesel engine technology, repair techniques, and industry best practices.
• Pitch in wherever needed—this is a hands‑on role where you’ll work alongside your team to get the job done.

What Sets You Apart

• Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Shop Manager, or Lead Technician—experience in the concrete or heavy equipment industry is a big plus.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
• Skilled in using diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and repair complex issues.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work.
• Strong leadership, communication, and teaching skills—you know how to motivate and develop your team.
• Organized and able to manage shop operations, schedules, and priorities effectively.
• Commitment to safety standards and protocols in every aspect of your work.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical certification in diesel engine repair is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
• Willingness to complete SRM’s pre‑employment screenings.
