Job summary

CB&I is seeking a Machine Operator Helper to assist the machine operator in iron-working tasks, including clipping, cutting, and hole punching. This role involves setup, hoisting, guiding steel members, and maintaining safety protocols in a shop or field environment.

The person will work a four-day week with 10-hour days and mandatory overtime on weekends when production requires it. Strong teamwork and adherence to safety practices are essential.

  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope
  • Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members
  • Guides member, using tag line to guide it into position
  • Pulls, pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while supported
  • Verifies alignment and assists final bolting or welding as needed
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment and observes safety rules

Overview

The Machine Operator Helper is responsible for helping the machine operator with iron working machines used for clipping, cutting and or hole punching. This position is a Individual Contributor role and reports directly to the Supervisor.

Standard work schedule is 4 days a week (Monday- Thursday), 10 hours a day.

Mandatory Overtime on weekends based on production needs

Responsibilities
  • Regularly introspect, seek feedback and adapt behaviors for ongoing personal development
  • Helps Machine Operator
  • Sets up hoisting equipment, raising, and placing structural-steel members, with basic rigging knowledge for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
  • Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members.
  • Guides member, using tag line in order to guide it into position.
  • Pulls, pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
  • Forces members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand tools.
  • Aligns bolt holes in steel member using drift pins or spud wrenches.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bob and level. Bolts align members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
  • Cuts and welds steel members to make alterations using oxyacetylene welding equipment and supplies.
  • Loads, transports, unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • May assist in lifting, positions and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Local Requirements

Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
