Job summary

Opifex-Synergy is seeking a Shop Foreman to lead service technicians, oversee equipment maintenance, and drive productivity across shop and field operations. The role partners with the Service Manager to support profitable branch performance through maintenance expertise and customer-focused service.

Ideal candidates have a long track record in heavy equipment service, strong organizational and leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety. Local travel to job sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma and/or 2-year technical certificate or related college degree.
• 5+ years of heavy equipment service experience preferred.
• PC proficiency, especially with MS Office; strong customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety policies and PPE usage across shop, yard, and wash bay.
• Coordinate daily activities of Service Technicians and supervise as needed.
• Provide hands-on training and support for technicians.
• Oversee maintenance and repair of rental equipment for safety and quality.
• Document work orders accurately and timely.
• Travel to customer job sites to assist with repairs and maintenance.

The Shop Foreman ensures Service Technicians, equipment, and materials are utilized properly to maximize productivity. This role works to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction by ensuring equipment is properly maintained and repaired. The position partners closely with the Service Manager and supports building a profitable branch through leadership, service excellence, and maintenance expertise. This role may serve as a pathway to a future Service Manager position.

Essential Functions

• Ensure the shop complies fully with company safety policies and procedures, including proper PPE usage
• Maintain organization and cleanliness standards across the shop, yard, and wash bay areas
• Coordinate daily activities of Service Technicians
• Provide hands-on training and support for new and existing technicians
• Supervise shop personnel as needed or in the absence of the Service Manager
• Oversee safe maintenance and repair of complex rental equipment
• Diagnose and supervise equipment repairs to ensure quality and efficiency
• Conduct regular inspections of rent-ready equipment to ensure standards are met
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of work performed, including work orders
• Travel to customer job sites as needed to assist with equipment repair and maintenance

Required Education And Experience

• High School Diploma
• 2-year technical certificate, 5 years of heavy equipment service experience, or a related college degree
• PC proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office applications
• Extensive knowledge of OEM equipment and maintenance
• Valid Driver’s License
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to build relationships and motivate team members

Supervisory Responsibilities

• No direct reports; provides training and supervision to technicians as needed

Work Environment

• Work is conducted in construction sites, equipment yards, and shop environments
• Regular exposure to heavy machinery and diesel-powered equipment
• Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind
• Physically demanding environment with uneven terrain, dust, mud, and noise
• Combination of shop and field work, including occasional travel
• Strict adherence to safety protocols is required
• PPE such as steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection required
• Work may involve confined spaces or elevated positions
• Lifting heavy materials is regularly required
• Adaptability required as conditions and priorities change

Travel Required

• May require local parts pickups and occasional job site visits

Physical Demands

• High level of physical stamina and mobility required
• Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment up to 50 pounds or more
• Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
• Prolonged standing and walking on uneven terrain
• Climbing in and out of trucks, trailers, and equipment
• Ability to work at heights and maintain balance
• Manual dexterity required for controls and documentation
• Must safely operate vehicles and remain alert in active environments
• Occasional pushing and pulling of heavy materials
