Job summary

AA Asphalting in Sumner, WA is hiring a Shop Foreman for a second shift (4:00pm–2:00am) to support our heavy equipment fleet across Puget Sound. The role combines supervision with hands-on repairs of trucks, pavers, backhoes and excavators, ensuring maintenance and safety standards are met.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of diesel/ brake repair experience, strong leadership, and excellent communication. CDL Class A is a plus; we offer CDL training and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience diagnosing manual transmissions and performing repairs on heavy trucks.
• Proficient in hydraulic, air, and electric brake systems for trucks and machinery.
• Diesel engine maintenance experience with at least 5 years preferred.
• Strong supervisory skills and ability to lead a second shift maintenance team.
• Excellent communication abilities and a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee mechanics on shift and provide technical guidance as needed.
• Prioritize repairs and manage shop workload for trucks and equipment.
• Repair and maintain trucks, machinery, and equipment including hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatics.
• Perform LOF and DOT inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Assist in fabricating parts/tools needed for tasks and document repairs.
• Complete shop and field repairs, and keep accurate maintenance records.
• Adhere to safety regulations and preventive safety practices.

Job description

We're hiring a full-time, year-round Shop Foreman to work in our Sumner, WA location. Our Shop is full service with a focus on Preventative Maintenance during the Summer months and Heavy Repairs during the off-season. The Shop Foreman works a SECOND SHIFT from 4:00pm to approximately 2:00am to service the Puget Sound area of our fleet. The Shop Foreman is a working foreman who maintains and performs repairs on a variety of heavy equipment used in the asphalt and concrete industry such as trucks, pavers, backhoes and excavators, and supervises the second shift mechanics and parts clerk.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversees the work of mechanics on shift and provides technical assistance as necessary
• Adjusts repair priorities of the shift as needed
• Repairs and maintains trucks, machinery and equipment.
• Performs general and special maintenance, including hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic diagnosis and repair of light to medium-duty trucks.
• Completes routine LOF inspections as well as annual DOT inspections on trucks, machinery and equipment as necessary.
• Assists in, or completes the fabrication of necessary parts and tools required or needed to complete a specific task.
• Completes repairs in the shop and in the field, on job sites.
• Keeps accurate maintenance records of all repairs.
• Complies with all safety regulations and practices preventive safety measures.

• Manual transmission service & diagnose: 5 years (Required)
• Hydraulic brake repair & troubleshooting: 5 years (Required)
• Air brake repair & troubleshooting: 5 years (Required)
• Electric brake repair & troubleshooting: 2 years (Preferred)
• Diesel Mechanic: 5 years (Required) (not preventive or oil changes)
• Supervisory : 3 years (Required)
• Able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
• Must have experience with computerized diagnostic equipment.
• Must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
• CDL Class A preferred. We offer assistance in obtaining a CDL Class A.
• Must have excellent communication skills.
