Job summary

CB&I is a world-leading designer and builder of storage facilities, tanks and terminals, and operates gantry cranes to lift, move, and position materials at our Houston plant. The Gantry Operator role reports to the Supervisor within a 4-day workweek (Mon-Thu), 10 hours per day, with overtime on weekends as production needs dictate.

Responsibilities include operating the gantry crane, inspecting gear daily, coordinating with welders and machinists, reading shop drawings, and maintaining QA logs

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be qualified to run a crane.

Responsibilities

• Operate gantry cranes to lift, move, and position materials such as metal components, fabricated parts, equipment, and tools.
• Inspect crane equipment and lifting gear daily to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Work closely with machine operators, welders, assemblers, and other production staff to coordinate material movement.
• Completes dimensional log for material burned, documents material information for QA report.
• Use hand signals or radio communication to direct crane movements and ensure safe load handling.
• Perform routine maintenance checks and report malfunctions or safety issues promptly.
• Read and interpret shop drawings and flow work order instructions to determine material specifications and handling requirements.
• Ensure all operations comply with OSHA and company safety standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, and housekeeping standards.
• Performs other duties as required.

Overview

The Gantry Operator is responsible for Operating Shop Crane to lift, move and position materials. This position is a Individual Contributor role. The role directly reports to the Supervisor.

Standard work schedule is 4 days a week (Monday- Thursday), 10 hours a day. Mandatory Overtime on weekends based on production needs

Qualifications

Skills and Behaviors

• Must have clear penmanship
• Hard stamp material using stencils
• Reads a measuring tape accurately
• Reads and understands how to use a bevel gauge
• Operates an overhead crane
• Experience with a hand torch with knowledge to choose the proper tip for different plate thickness
• Able to work in extreme heat conditions
• Able to do multiple torch bevel set ups to operate a gantry plate burner
• Grinds on plate bevel edges to conformed with weld prep requirements
• Cut scrap excess material
• Housekeeping cleans area clear of burning slag and scrap
• Drives a forklift to move material
