Job summary

MMI Industrial & Steel in Mesa, Arizona is seeking a skilled Quality Control Inspector – Structural Steel (Shop) to ensure fabrication and welding comply with drawings, codes, and standards. This full-time role is based in our Mesa facility and not remote.

The inspector will verify MTRs, assess welds, track NCRs, and coordinate with production and third-party inspectors, supporting audits and maintaining complete quality records.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of inspection experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply structural steel drawings and weld symbols.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and AISC standards.
• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Proficiency with inspection software such as Tekla.

Responsibilities

• Perform in-process and final inspections of structural steel fabrication and welds in shop.
• Verify material identifications, heat numbers, and traceability against MTRs.
• Inspect fit-up, welding, bolting, hole sizes, edge conditions, and tolerances.
• Ensure welding complies with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welder qualifications.
• Document inspection results and initiate NCRs when discrepancies are found.
• Coordinate inspections with production, shop supervision, and third-party inspectors.
• Maintain QA records aligned with project specs and company requirements.
• Assist audits and ensure availability of quality documentation.
• Enforce inspection hold points and quality procedures throughout fabrication.
