Job summary

TrailersPlus, a division of Interstate Group, is hiring a Shop Assistant in Houston, TX, offering $18-$19 per hour for 40 hours weekly. You’ll perform hands-on trailer service, installations, and warranty repairs in a dynamic outdoor shop.

You’ll operate tractors and power tools, assist with inventory, and support sales while maintaining a safe, organized work environment; HS diploma or equivalent required, bilingual Spanish a plus.

Qualifications

• Strong troubleshooting skills and hands-on mechanical ability.
• Ability to operate tractors, power tools, and welding equipment safely.
• Physically capable of outdoors work, lifting 50–75 lbs.
• Basic math and problem-solving for practical scenarios.
• Clear communication skills; HS diploma or equivalent required; bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform service, custom parts installations, and warranty repairs on trailers.
• Operate Kubota tractor and power tools; welding equipment with certification.
• Inspect inventory, conduct safety checks, assist with product presentations.
• Keep shop and lot clean, safe, and running efficiently.
• Collaborate with management to resolve issues and assist sales and customers.

Are you a skilled problem-solver who loves getting hands-on with heavy equipment, power tools, and custom mechanical work? TrailersPlus is seeking a Shop Assistant to join our Lot Operations team. What You’ll Do

• Hands-On Mechanical Work: Perform service, custom parts installations, and warranty repairs on trailers of all makes and models.
• Operations & Equipment: Drive a Kubota tractor (or equivalent) for lot maneuvering, operate power tools, and utilize welding equipment (company certification provided).
• Inventory & Quality Control: Inspect inbound/outbound trailer inventory, conduct daily safety checks, and assist with product presentations for sales.
• Facility Maintenance: Keep the shop, lot, and facilities clean, safe, organized, and running efficiently.
• Team & Customer Support: Collaborate with store management to resolve technical issues, support trailer sales, and assist customers with parts and service needs.

What We’re Looking For

• Mechanical Aptitude & Detail: Strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on mechanical ability, and precision in work quality.
• Equipment Experience: Ability (or quick capability) to operate tractors, power tools, and welding equipment safely.
• Physical Capability: Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, climbing ladders, and routinely lifting 50–75 lbs.
• Foundational Math & Problem-Solving: Ability to handle basic practical math (proportions, percentages, geometry) and resolve non-standard technical problems.
• Communication: Clear communication skills for team collaboration and customer interactions. High school diploma or equivalent required. (Bilingual Spanish skills and basic computer/keyboarding skills are a plus!)
