Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII, is seeking a Welder to join our ship construction team at Oyster Point Industrial Park (OPIP). You will perform structural and pipe welds across multiple processes and positions, with training in inspection and safety.

Candidates must be 18+, have 3+ years welding experience, and be eligible to work in the U.S. AWS certification is a nice-to-have. Relocation is not offered; travel 10–25% may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
• A minimum of 3 years Welding Experience.
• Climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
• Work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
• Lift heavy objects weighing 40 lbs. or more.
• Work in areas with radiation (where applicable).
• Take and pass a respirator fit test and Physical Agility Test.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural and/or pipe welds in ship construction using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW.
• Welds are made in all positions using manual and mechanized processes and will satisfy nondestructive tests.
• Receive additional training including certified visual inspection, fire watch, carbon arcing, and troubleshooting.
