Job summary

The U.S. Fleet Forces Command seeks a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist within the Production Process Improvement Division at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

You will manage safety and health program requirements for the division, coordinating with production teams to ensure compliant, safe operations. Responsibilities include evaluating workplace hazards, recommending controls, tracking corrective actions, and supporting safe execution of shipyard production.

Qualifications

• Experience applying occupational safety and health concepts to identify, evaluate and control hazards.
• Experience communicating ergonomic principles to motivate safe work.
• Experience applying safety practices to shipyard equipment, materials, and systems.
• Experience recommending corrective measures when hazardous conditions are encountered.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the local/functional Safety Manager for the division's safety and occupational health program requirements.
• Communicate assignments, projects, milestones, and deadlines with respective timeframes.
• Evaluate workplace conditions, identify hazardous operations, recommend hazard controls, and track corrective actions.
• Support safety and occupational health program requirements for shipyard production and support work.
• Assist with corrective actions and provide safety guidance for production operations.
