Job summary

Wayne Farms LLC in Mississippi seeks a Shipping Department Leader to manage daily operations, lead staff, ensure SOP/GMP/USDA/OSHA compliance, and safeguard product integrity during loading, storage and transport.

You will develop procedures, coach employees, enforce safety, monitor schedules, and collaborate across departments to meet production targets and customer specifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum four (4) years relevant in a supply chain or shipping environment.
• Experience in perishable foods preferred.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to resolve issues efficiently and calmly.
• Knowledge of timekeeping, policy adherence and best practices.
• Must follow safety policies and wear PPE as required.

Responsibilities

• Manage department by establishing procedures and adjusting as necessary to meet shipping schedules.
• Oversee day-to-day activities ensuring safe loading/unloading and storage of materials.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization and reduce deficiencies.
• Mentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees; provide consistent feedback.
• Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions when needed.
• Follow and promote safety initiatives; maintain a zero-accident culture.
• Ensure docks and storage facilities are organized and compliant.
• Collaborate with other departments to meet goals; adhere to union contracts if applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for managing all aspects of shipping department through the direction of personnel to ensure all procedures are followed in compliance with Company policies (i.e. SOPs, GMPs, etc.) and Federal and State regulations (i.e. USDA, OSHA, etc.) while achieving the highest level of productivity and maintaining customer specifications and satisfaction.RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:Manage department by establishing procedures and adjusting as necessary to meet shipping schedules, increase efficiencies and meet or exceed budget objectivesOversee the day-to-day activities of the department to ensure efficient transportation and storage of materials used and produced by production lines and the safe and efficient loading and unloading of product to reduce risk of contamination and damageIdentify and communicate opportunities for process optimization and/or reduce/eliminate repeat deficiencies (i.e. hold product, accidents, downtime, etc.)Mentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvementAdminister performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions on a fair and consistent basisFollow and promote all safety initiatives, (i.e. wear and ensure others wear appropriate PPE in area where mandatory) helping to maintain a zero accident cultureEnsure department, docks and storage facilities are organized and maintained according to guidelines/proceduresWork corroboratively with other departments/shifts ensuring departmental or location goals are met or exceededLearn, understand and adhere to current Union negotiated contract if applicableAll other duties as assignedROLE:This role is a Leader of People role with required competencies: Sizing up People, Delegation, Planning, Customer Focus and Conflict ManagementEDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent; Associates degree with relevant coursework from an accredited institution preferredA combination of education and work experience may be substituted for degreeEXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:Minimum four (4) years relevant in a supply chain or shipping environment; experience in perishable foods preferredDemonstrated leadership experience including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy adherence, Top 25 behaviors, conflict resolution and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively; previous supervisory experience preferredStrong customer focus with exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to fluently communicate effectively both up and down the chain of command and with external customers in a timely and professional mannerMust have Proficient computer and math skillsSelf-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environmentStrong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detailMust possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgencySAFETY REQUIREMENTS:Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programsWear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatoryWe are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
