Job summary

Stryten Energy is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor to oversee daily warehouse operations and ensure on-time delivery performance. You will coordinate with plant operations, transportation teams, and carriers to keep shipments on schedule and compliant with DOT/ EPA guidelines.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial setting, with 3+ years in shipping/receiving, and are proficient in Excel and Word. Hazmat certification is required.

Job description

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse and shipping operations to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely distribution of finished goods. This position is accountable for achieving on-time delivery performance through effective coordination of shipping activities and compliance with company policies and applicable transportation and environmental regulations.

  • Ensure that all warehouse and distribution center outbound shipments are on schedule so deliveries meet customer expectations and comply with DOT and EPA requirements; to include handling of hazardous waste.
  • Maintain effective communication with plant operations, HQ transportation teams, and freight carriers to ensure shipments are scheduled, processed, and delivered according to customer and business requirements.
  • Provide timely and accurate solutions to Operations management to overcome challenges that would prevent the Company from shipping an order as planned.
  • Ensure that all shipping documentation and reporting is accurate, completed on-time and stored to ensure timely retrieval by company officials.
  • Keep abreast of relevant governmental regulations (DOT, EPA, OSHA, etc.) to avoid any delays in deliveries due to any non-compliance.
  • Supervise, train, and provide day-to-day direction to warehouse personnel, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and fostering a safe, efficient, and continuous improvement work environment.
  • Conduct weekly Environmental, Health and Safety audits of the Shipping Department to ensure safe and healthy working conditions to prevent work injuries and/or illnesses.
  • Manage aged inventory to ensure FIFO, that boosting requirements are met and avoid scrapping of overage material.
  • Evaluate associate performance and implement appropriate rewards and/or corrective actions where needed.
  • Adapt effectively to changing priorities and schedule demands.
  • Additional responsibilities as neededto support the team and company goals.
Education, Experience
  • Must have at least 5 years prior supervisory experience in a industrial environment of which 3 years should be in Shipping/Receiving, Materials, and/or DC Operations.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • JD Edwards experience is a plus.
  • Hazmat certification.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a Distribution setting
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and purchase orders.
  • Effectively communicate in writing and verbally with all team members, plant leaders, customers and corporate leaders.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division perform basic statistical functions such as percentages, averages, and standard deviations.
  • Ability to identify operational problems, evaluate various alternatives, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Must have good organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schematic form.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly required to stand, walk, extend arms for reaching and use hands to perform tasks. Individual is frequently required to sit, stand, walk through congested warehouse areas with moving material handling equipment; climb stairs, stoop, bend, kneel or crouch and regularly pick up and carry a minimum of 40lbs. Must be able to wear a appropriate respiratory protection as needed. Must be able to pass an annual respirator fit test. Must be able to work extended shift hours and weekends as needed.

Work Environment
  • Warehouse environment with frequent trips to the outdoor shipping docks and truck traffic. Requires frequent climbing of one flight of stairs and occasional exposure to pathway hazards.
  • Physical hazards include moving vehicles, wet walking surfaces, and stair climbing.
  • Ambient temperature in warehouse area ranges from an extreme of over 100 degrees outdoors and around 90 in warehouse in summer to below freezing outdoors in the winter and 60 degrees inside in winter. Office is temperature controlled.
  • Continuous exposure to various amounts of sulfuric acid fumes and exposure to airborne lead and cadmium particles at levels that may require the use of respiratory protection equipment and biological monitoring as prescribed by the OSHA Lead and Cadmium Standards.
