Job summary

Insteel Industries is seeking a Shipping / Receiving Material Handler – Outside to join our outdoor team in the Pennsylvania facility. You will move raw and finished materials using a diesel forklift and overhead crane, follow safety procedures, and help maintain a clean, organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Move raw and finished materials in shipping areas using required equipment such as a diesel forklift tractor and overhead lifting crane.
  • Be part of our safety culture by wearing the proper PPE, reporting all issues with materials and equipment, and staying safe.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Load, unload, and band material as required; store material in proper locations.
  • Stage rod at the appropriate door for production machines; perform cycle counts and sub-inventory transfers in the computer system.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and a neat work area; assist with other duties in the shipping department.

Shipping / Receiving Material Handler – Outside

Position Snapshot

A Material Handler is expected to work safely when moving raw and finished materials in shipping areas using required equipment such as a diesel forklift tractor, and overhead lifting crane. It is the Material Handler's responsibility to be part of our safety culture by wearing the proper personal protective equipment, asking for assistance if needed, reporting all issues with materials and equipment, and staying safe. The Material handler needs to follow all company policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Knowledge of safety equipment and safety procedures for shipping/receiving operations
  • Visually check the quality of the finished product
  • Loads and bands material as required
  • Cycle counts material and makes sub-inventory transfers in the computer system
  • Handles other duties as assigned within the shipping department
  • Always maintains good housekeeping/neat work area
  • Loads unloads, and bands material as required

  • Expected to be forklift and crane certified

Physical Demands:

The physical demands in a heavy manufacturing environment are significantly more strenuous and require a high level of physical fitness and stamina. Workers are frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and lift or carry heavy materials—often over 50 pounds—throughout their shift. Tasks may involve operating or working near heavy machinery, using hand and power tools, and performing repetitive motions. Employees must also be able to tolerate exposure to heat, cold, loud noise, and other environmental factors such as dust, vibration, and slippery surfaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and physical agility, coordination, and situational awareness are critical to performing job duties safely and effectively in an industrial setting.

Work Environment:

The work environment for this position is an industrial manufacturing plant, with employees regularly exposed to physical and environmental challenges. Workers are continuously (70–100% of the time) around moving and potentially dangerous machinery and are subject to loud noise levels that require hearing protection. Continuously (70-100% of the time), they may encounter heat from both weather and industrial processes, as well as cold weather conditions. Continuously (70-100% of the time), the environment may include wet or humid conditions, slippery floors or ramps, vibration from equipment, exposure to outside weather, dust, electrical shock hazards, and contact with oil, grease, or solvents. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols are essential in maintaining a safe and productive workspace in this industrial setting.
