Job summary

Copper State Bolt & Nut Co. is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Associate to join our Tucson facility.

You will handle the shipping and receiving of fasteners, tools, and materials, using RF scanners, packing lists, and freight documentation to keep shipments moving accurately and on time. Applicants must have a high school diploma, be able to lift up to 50 lbs, and pass mandatory pre-employment drug and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Ship fasteners, tools, raw materials, and other related items to customers.
• Ship orders as prioritized by supervisors or the sales department.
• Use RF scanners to ensure accurate information and tracking.
• Enter information on packing lists, invoices, freight manifests, bills of lading, and in the system.
• Schedule freight pickups and deliveries; coordinate with freight companies as needed.
• Process returns and make necessary disposition of product with supervision.
• Stock, cross-dock, and stage items as required.
• Ensure received products are entered into the system for correct routing.

Fast, Efficient, and Accurate—Keeping Shipments Moving and Operations Flowing

THE ROLE

Copper State Bolt & Nut is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Associate to join our team. You will be responsible for shipping and receiving fasteners, tools, raw materials, and other related items to and from customers and suppliers or service providers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Shipping

• Ship fasteners, tools, raw materials, and other related items to customers
• Ship orders as they are prioritized by supervisors or the sales department
• Use RF scanners (as applicable) to ensure that accurate information is recorded, including tracking information and box/weight count
• Accurately enter information on hardcopy packing lists, customer invoices, freight manifests, bills of lading, and/or in the computer system
• Schedule freight company pickups and deliveries
• Contact freight companies, if necessary, to schedule pickups and ensure that product is prepared and documented for pickup
• Work with supervisors or the sales department if shipping requirements cannot be met, or if alternatives may provide better price or service

Receiving

• Receive fasteners, tools, raw materials, and other related items from suppliers or service providers
• Process orders as they arrive or as prioritized by supervisors or purchasing
• Use RF scanners (as applicable) to ensure that accurate quantities and products are received for each order
• Accurately enter information on purchase orders, vendor packing lists, freight manifests, and/or in the computer system
• Ensure that vendor returns (debit memos) are processed quickly and accurately, that applicable supervisors review and approve product returns, and that inventory is sent to the vendor as prescribed
• Process freight claims as necessary, indicating freight damage on the vendor's packing list and the freight company's freight manifest – advise supervisors or purchasing of the nature of the freight claim and necessary disposition of product
• Stocking, cross-docking, and staging
• Ensure that product received is reviewed in the system so that product is sent to applicable packaging, order pulling, or stocking departments as necessary
• In Phoenix, ensure that product received for other branches is noted in the system and properly transferred to the applicable freight carrier or O/T staging location

Safety

• Ensure that all activities are performed in a safe manner using applicable safety equipment

Decision/Information Sharing and Communication

• Must enter accurate data on product, quantities, back-orders, etc.
• Seek supervisor or purchasing assistance for products that are shipped incorrectly
• Work well with other warehouse departments, including order pulling, shipping, and packaging, to ensure productive and efficient workflow in the warehouse
• Report safety hazards to supervisors or other managers immediately

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Employees operating forklifts or cherry-pickers must be trained and certified

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lift heavy boxes, products, or other items, up to or more than 50 lbs.
• Stand for virtually the entire shift (8 or more hours)
