Job summary

Amentum in Ogden, UT is seeking a material handling and packing associate. You will pack and repack a variety of materials, verify packaging to release orders, and select containers to protect items during shipping.

Responsibilities include reading specs, using MHE to move pallets, inputting data into DSS, and maintaining accurate tags and records. Safety, quality, and compliance with DLA regulations are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) months general work experience.
• Must be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
• Position may require travel and ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

• Ensures material is preserved/packaged/marked/labeled per Military Standards before release to storage or shipping.
• Selects proper size container and cushioning to protect from damage.
• Conducts basic inspection/examination procedures for material.
• Reads specifications and photographs as required in DLA contract.
• May operate MHE with packing duties to load material on/off pallets and vehicles.
• Receives data from and inputs data to DSS and other automated systems; prepares basic reports.
• Counts, weighs, records data, and applies tags/labels.

Purpose and Scope

Pack and/or re-packs a wide variety of materials. Verifies the condition code of the item to be packed and reject those not meeting the release order requirements. Determines the type of pack required in accordance with information contained on documents and other packing and shipping instructions such as military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Reports to designated Lead, Supervisor or Manager.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Minimum three (3) months general work experience which will demonstrate ability to perform requirements of position. No specific experience required. High school diploma or GED required. May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of general experience for one year of high school. Must be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection. Packers who process material requiring HAZMAT Certification must be able to successfully pass training requirements. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

Shop environment in with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high volume of activity. Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outside work in hot and cold or wet weather is often required. Work environment often has fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices are required to avoid injury.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
