Job summary

Pratt is seeking a Shipping Lead to oversee forklift operators and the movement of products, ensuring safe loading and unloading while supporting training initiatives. This role requires coordinating daily tasks, monitoring performance, and maintaining adherence to company standards.

The candidate will back up the supervisor and other leads as needed, while contributing to continuous improvement and a positive, safe work environment. Prior logistics experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Five years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in corrugated container industry preferred.
  • Computer literacy: MS Excel and MS Word.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee forklift operators and product movement.
  • Support training for new and existing employees.
  • Back up and support supervisors as needed.
  • Ensure safety standards and elevate safety culture within the department.
  • Monitor warehousing activities for efficient use of time and resources.
  • Assist in loading/unloading practices to meet customer needs and company standards.
  • Train/coach new or struggling employees.
  • Verify loads and communicate status of outgoing orders.

POSITION: SHIPPING LEAD
BENEFITS:

SUMMARY

To oversee and support forklift operators on product movement, as well as the loading and unloading of product. To support training efforts for new and existing employees. To backup and support supervisors as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follow all safety standards and help elevate the safety culture within the department
  • Follow all storage and loading best practices
  • Help to monitor warehouse activities to ensure efficient & effective use of time
  • Help monitor loading practices to ensure customer needs & company standards are met
  • Report any personnel or equipment concerns or safety concerns
  • Support the supervisor by helping organize & direct forklift operators daily tasks
  • Support all warehouse activities through participation and observation
  • Be available to answer questions about storage, loading, cycle counting, etc…
  • Help train/coach new or struggling employees
  • Monitor the quality of units/shipments & verify accuracy of loads
  • Check status of outgoing orders and load plans
  • Locate orders/units on items that cannot be found
  • Communicate with supervisor as needed to keep work flow progressing
  • Participate in daily transition meetings with leadership
  • Monitor email and use additional tools to support daily activities
  • Backup the Supervisor as needed
  • Backup other Leads as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years experience in a manufacturing environment

Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:

  • Experience in the corrugated container industry
  • Computer literate (MS Excel and MS Word)

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as bill of ladings, packing slips, training and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write shipping reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems and deal with situations where limited information or standardization exists.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, costs, proportions, and volumes.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Computer literate (MS Office including Word and Excel), data entry skills
  • Application knowledge of products and production processes
  • Quality standards – both ISO and QS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • The employee is sometimes required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving equipment in the work area.
