Job summary

Insteel Industries in Hazle Township, PA is seeking a Shipping Team Lead to coordinate the daily shipping and receiving operations. The role combines hands-on leadership with training to ensure safe, accurate, and on-time movement of materials and finished goods.

Position Summary

The Shipping Team Lead is responsible for coordinating and leading the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department to ensure the safe, accurate, and timely movement of materials and finished goods. This position serves as a working leader by providing guidance, training, and support to shipping personnel while assisting the Shipping Manager in maintaining efficient operations, inventory accuracy, and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.


The Shipping Team Lead promotes a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and workplace safety. This position is expected to support the company's commitment to reducing risk to As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and achieving Zero Harm by preventing injuries, illnesses, property damage, and environmental impacts.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the shipping and receiving team to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and accurately.

  • Train, coach, and support shipping personnel on safe work practices, shipping procedures, and company policies.

  • Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Load, unload, stage, and store raw materials and finished goods while preventing product damage.

  • Verify shipments for accuracy and ensure customer orders are prepared and shipped on time.

  • Monitor inventory levels, investigate inventory discrepancies, and assist in maintaining accurate inventory records.

  • Coordinate and perform cycle counts according to established schedules and assist with physical inventories.

  • Process intercompany transfers and inventory movements as required.

  • Work closely with Shipping, Production, Sales, Scheduling, and Customer Service to meet customer delivery requirements and resolve shipping issues.

  • Perform visual inspections of finished products and packaging to verify products meet customer and company requirements before shipment.

  • Assist the Shipping Manager in identifying process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, inventory accuracy, and customer service.

  • Provide daily direction and support to team members, assisting with workload balancing and problem resolution.

  • Ensure shipping documentation, inventory transactions, and required records are completed accurately and timely.

  • Serve as backup for shipping personnel and assist in maintaining uninterrupted department operations during absences.

  • Participate in department meetings, safety initiatives, training sessions, and scheduled inventories.

  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the department.


Qualifications

Education & Experience


  • Associate degree or technical training in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in shipping, warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing operations, preferably in a lead or supervisory capacity.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
