Job summary

Amentum is seeking personnel for packing and repacking a variety of materials in a shop environment with hazardous equipment and high activity. The role requires adherence to DLA regulations, proper labeling, and use of Military Standards prior to release to storage or shipping.

• May operate MHE to load/unload material on pallets, stands and vehicles.
• Receives data and inputs to DSS and other systems; prepares basic reports.
• Counts, weights, records data, and applies tags/labels; performs other duties.

Purpose and Scope

Pack and/or re-packs a wide variety of materials. Verifies the condition code of the item to be packed and reject those not meeting the release order requirements. Determines the type of pack required in accordance with information contained on documents and other packing and shipping instructions such as military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Reports to designated Lead, Supervisor or Manager.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes of material as per DLA regulations.
2. Ensures material is properly preserved/packaged/marked/labeled in accordance with Military Standards prior to releasing material to storage or shipping.
3. Selects proper size container and cushioning to be used from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
4. Conduct basic processes of inspection/examination procedures for material.
5. Read specifications and photographs as/if required in DLA contract.
6. May operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off of skids, pallets, stands and vehicles.
7. Receive data from and input data to DSS and other automated systems in performance of duties and be able to prepare basic reports.
8. Count, weight, record data, prepare and apply tags/labels. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Minimum three (3) months general work experience which will demonstrate ability to perform requirements of position. No specific experience required.
• High school diploma or GED required. May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of general experience for one year of high school.
• Must be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
• Packers who process material requiring HAZMAT Certification must be able to successfully pass training requirements.
• Position may require travel.
• Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

Shop environment in with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high volume of activity. Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outside work in hot and cold or wet weather is often required. Work environment often has fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices are required to avoid injury.
