Amentum is hiring for a material handler in Ogden, UT. The role focuses on packing and repacking a wide variety of materials and ensuring compliance with DLA regulations and military standards. You will verify condition codes, select appropriate packing, and prepare items for storage or shipment.

Responsibilities include data entry into DSS, basic reporting, and potential travel. A high school diploma or GED is required, with MHE licensing obtainable within 30 days and eligibility for security

Job description

Purpose and Scope:

Pack and/or re-packs a wide variety of materials. Verifies the condition code of the item to be packed and reject those not meeting the release order requirements. Determines the type of pack required in accordance with information contained on documents and other packing and shipping instructions such as military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Reports to designated Lead, Supervisor or Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:

• 1. Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes of material as per DLA regulations.
• 2. Ensures material is properly preserved/packaged/marked/labeled in accordance with Military Standards prior to releasing material to storage or shipping.
• 3. Selects proper size container and cushioning to be used from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
• 4. Conduct basic processes of inspection/examination procedures for material.
• 5. Read specifications and photographs as/if required in DLA contract.
• 6. May operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off of skids, pallets, stands and vehicles.
• 7. Receive data from and input data to DSS and other automated systems in performance of duties and be able to prepare basic reports.
• 8. Count, weight, record data, prepare and apply tags/labels.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Minimum three (3) months general work experience which will demonstrate ability to perform requirements of position. No specific experience required. High school diploma or GED required. May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of general experience for one year of high school. Must be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection. Packers who process material requiring HAZMAT Certification must be able to successfully pass training requirements. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Shop environment in with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles and high volume of activity. Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision. Outside work in hot and cold or wet weather is often required. Work environment often has fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices are required to avoid injury.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
