Primary Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Supervising manpower and materials to meet schedule milestones.
  2. Reviewing project schedules and budgets during ship availabilities.
  3. Controlling labor and materials.
  4. Ensuring completion of assigned work on schedule and within budget.
  5. Participating in planning processes.
  6. Directing personnel and assigning work accordingly.
  7. Ensuring personnel skills meet job requirements.
  8. Performing ship checks and estimating work as needed.
  9. Complying with all company policies and procedures.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Craft Manager.

The Supervisor of the Shipfitter/Welder Department is responsible for overseeing trade personnel, leading the department to complete work on time and within budget, and coordinating efforts with other craft supervision to adhere to project schedules. Responsibilities also include planning and scheduling work, ordering materials, and managing and developing staff through leadership, motivation, training, and discipline.


The selected candidate will be required to work 1st shift.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • Minimum 8 years with an associate degree, or 4 years with a bachelor's degree; substitution with equivalent experience, training, or certifications is possible.
  • At least 8 years in shipyard trade or fabrication experience.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of ship fitting, welding, and blueprint reading.
  • Understanding of NAVSEA specifications, MIL STD standards, USCG, ABS, and other marine guidelines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and business documents.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities in variable situations.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in various formats.
  • Physical ability to board ships, enter confined spaces, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
