Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in North Kingstown, RI seeks a skilled shipfitter to join our manufacturing team. The role involves fabrication, layout, assembly and installation of foundations, frames, and deck packages for submarine programs.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent or 2+ years of related technical experience, and be able to read blueprints and shipyard documents. Tools are provided; on-site work with shifts required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or 2+ years of related technical experience.
• Ability to work all shifts.
• Own basic hand tools.
• Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and shipyard procedures.

Responsibilities

• Layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components and deck packages.
• Develop working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up, weld symbols, burning and grinding operations.
• Align parts using jacks, clips and wedges from blueprints and templates.
• Tack-weld structural parts as required.
• Utilize hands and power tools in the steel fabrication trade.
• Read and interpret company drawings, test documents, manuals and shipyard procedures.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations.
