Job summary

A federal contracting company is looking for a Shift Technical Advisor in Oak Ridge, TN. This role requires 15-20 years of relevant experience, preferably in technical advisory roles within a compliance-driven environment. Responsibilities include supporting daily operations, managing troubleshooting activities, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. Ideal candidates will have a BA/BS degree and can obtain DOE clearance. This is an on-site position offering growth opportunities and benefits.

Qualifications

  • 15-20 years of direct experience or 14-18 years with MA/MS.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearance.
  • Preferred DOE Q Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support Operations and Shift Manager to ensure safety.
  • Interfacing with support organizations for compliance.
  • Manage troubleshooting and improvement activities.
  • Coordinate large, cross-cutting activities within the facility.
  • Evaluate proposed modifications against safety analysis.
  • Evaluate proposed modifications against the approved Documented Safety Analysis via Unreviewed Safety Question.
  • Determine processes to ensure changes stay within scope and methods for the facility.
  • Provide on‑call coverage for weekends as rotated; may include weekend work.

Job description

The Shift Technical Advisor is responsible for providing the technical expertise to understand the approved safety basis for operations of the facility and to evaluate the impact of proposed changes/modifications on the safe operation of the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Serving as primary support team member for the Operations Manager and Shift Manager to ensure daily operations are safe, effective, and performed in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Interfacing with support organizations to understand planned operations within the facility and ensure activities are in compliance with facility safety basis authorized work.
  • Performing troubleshooting and improvement activities for emerging issues within the operations management scope of responsibility to resolve issues and improve effectiveness in implementation of compliance requirements.
  • Serving in a project management role as needed for coordination of large, cross‑cutting activities within the facility that involve multiple interfaces that cross organizational lines.
  • Presenting technical briefings or presentations, as required, that describe and explain approved facility operations and compliance implementation methods.
  • Evaluating proposed modifications or changes against the approved Documented Safety Analysis via the Unreviewed Safety Question.
  • Determining process to ensure changes are within the scope and methods appropriate for the facility.
  • Provide on‑call coverage for assigned weekends based upon a rotation with others in the group; on‑call is as needed which may or may not require weekend work for the assigned weekend.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS Degree plus 15‑20 years of direct experience required or an MA or MS with 14‑18 years of experience.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job‑related, and 1‑year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
  • DOE Q Clearance preferred.

  • Pre‑employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post‑offer, pre‑employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre‑placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy.
  • If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position.
  • WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre‑employment drug screen.
