Job summary

Connections Health Solutions is seeking a Shift Supervisor to provide operational and administrative oversight for the facility during shifts, ensuring safe, efficient, patient-centered care. You will lead day-to-day workflow, coordinate staff, and support patients through treatment progression.

The role requires 5+ years clinical care experience, QMHP credential, and 2+ years of leadership. The position emphasizes compliance, teamwork, and effective problem-solving in a busy behavioral health

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ direct clinical care experience (Nursing, Social Services, Administrative or Milieu).
  • QMHP Credential.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Understanding of utilization management and revenue cycle management in behavioral health.
  • Must pass Virginia background checks and related screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the assigned unit/shift to maintain efficient, high-quality clinical care.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges; act as on-site resource for staff and families.
  • Ensure adherence to Utilization Management and Revenue Cycle guidelines for proper coding and billing.
  • Train and orient new staff; partner with discipline manager for full position orientation.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe milieu and support patient care.

What You’ll Do

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing operational and administrative oversight of the facility during assigned shifts or within specific units, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered delivery of care. The Shift Supervisor oversees day-to-day workflow, patient throughput, staffing coordination, and real-time problem solving to support smooth movement of patients through the facility and appropriate care at each stage of treatment. This role serves as the on-shift leader and key resource for staff, patients, families, and community partners, while promoting effective communication, regulatory compliance, sound clinical operations, and optimal use of resources to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

  • Oversee the operation of the assigned unit and shift to ensure the clinical team is operating efficiently, smoothly, and consistently to support high-quality clinical care and outcomes.
  • Oversee the operation, organization, and flow of patients through the unit and facility, including but not limited to delegating work assignments for all disciplines, and supporting admissions, transfers, and discharges to and from the unit. Acts as the onsite resource for the clinical staff, individuals, family members, or community stakeholders.
  • Responsible for ensuring all clinical staff are following Utilization Management and Revenue Cycle Management guidelines to ensure correct coding and billing of services.
  • Manages escalated concerns/problems from internal and external stakeholders. Actively assesses and manages barriers that impact flow through the facility.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, all standards of practice, and the requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Assists with training and orientation of new staff to unit processes and procedures. Partners with discipline manager to ensure full orientation to position.
  • Utilizes de‑escalation procedures and theories to assist in providing a safe milieu. Utilizes skills effectively to describe and demonstrate roles and responsibilities related to safety.
  • Partners with clinical and administrative managers to identify and manage performance and behavior issues.
  • Is trained in and able to perform Safe Clinch techniques and provide oversight and guidance.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a direct clinical care provider in Nursing, Social Services, Administrative or Milieu support (BHS/RSS)
  • QMHP Credential
  • 2 years of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to encourage cross-functional and multi-disciplinary partnership
  • Working understanding of utilization management and revenue cycle management in the behavioral health setting
  • The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
  • State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance
  • Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (VA DBHDS) background check
  • Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) Office of Background Investigations - Central Registry Search
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Card for the State of Virginia (BHS/RSS positions)
It Would Be Great If You Had
  • At least 2 years of clinical work experience in a crisis behavioral health setting
  • 3 years of leadership experience
  • Ability to perform Safe Clinch restraint technique

Virginia pay range

$35.50 - $40 USD
